Exclamation The important of image on success in the music industy

Hi guys,

I have always wondered what it would be like if One Direction weren't attractive young guys. Would they have appealed to as many people as they did? Personally I think that as a community we are attracted to pretty things and maybe appearance overclouds our judgment of good music. If we did not know what One Direction looked like, would people still consider them as good musicians? Would they be famous?

Furthermore, I'm sure most of you have watched Susan Boyle's audition on Britain's got Talent. I am ashamed to say my first thought was that she wouldn't sing well. But that brings me to a question:

Why do we think that if people aren't attractive that they probably are less likely to be good musicians? Why is image so important in the music industry?
