I agree it is kind of lackluster.. I think Kanye and maybe JayZ/Drake are male super stars. Adam Levine is an arguable option also.

Are we speaking in terms of record sales or publicity or something else?

They are superstars but they are not mega stars like Rihanna or Adele.

If you notice Jay Z latches on to other popular singers to stay "relevant" Watch The Throne album/Tour (Him and Kanye) (Legends Tour/ Him and Justin Timberlake)- Holy Grail ft. JT; On the Run tour (Jay Z and Beyonce) Drunk n Love- B ft. Jay Z

These are his latest notable hits and they all feature someone or he is a feature.

Featuring artists is just a hip hop standard. I'm not sure if those singles would be as big if they weren't released by Jay. MJ had Eddy Van Halen play on Beat It, is that latching onto other popular acts for support? Nay.

MJ also did not do an album with another artist nor did he tour with other major artists.

His collaborations were for artistic reasons not because he needed them to stay relevant.

MJ actually did Eddie a favor by having him on the track. Michael was everywhere in 84'

also hey Carly Rae is a classy lady who wears clothes and is popular.

They're still popular? I haven't heard about either of them musically in a long time, and I'm Canadian. Of course, Bieber is always making the news in other ways.

Seriously? Paul McCartney's last tour was called On the Run. Talk about originality.

I haven't heard anything by Adele in a while. Ariana, Nikki, and Iggy are the 3 artists getting the most radio play atm on the women's side. And as I already said, Jayz, Kanye, and Drake are also involved in some way or another in a bunch of popular tracks.

Maroon 5 has consistently been putting out hit singles for years so I hold them in high regard when it comes to big name pop artists(even though I hate them).

Majority of what I hear on the radio is the 6 artists listed above mixed with random singles from HipPoppers and lesser known generic pop artists. I'm really digging this song atm:

I think this is a good example of the way that Soulflower would like to see sex represented in the mainstream and it's very catchy. Plus, I definitely agree with the lyrics.

 please, VH was just as popular at that time. Even young altar boys like my dad were into them and indoctrinated.

Hardly, Van Halen were the biggest rock band in the world in 1983.

Thanks guys for your cooperation!!! Very grateful!!! :)
What do you think about stereotypes of females in the music industry? Are they all the same? Is this why they are popular?
