As far as super mainstream artists go, I really enjoy Bruno Mars hits and most of J.Cole.
Other artists include Allen Stone and Jamie Cullum. Allen Stone is a "poppy" Soul/Rhythm and Blues artist. Jamie Cullum is a "poppy" contemporary jazz artist. He has some deep roots stuff that includes a lot of traditional jazz and swing, but for the most part he's contemporary. |

This is deeply embarrassing, but my favorite has always been Liza Minnelli's "Losing My Mind" (which is a version of the song from Sondheim's musical Follies) :
Shirley Bassey has a nice version of the above as well. And I equally love New Order's Bizarre Love Triangle (but I love everything New Order) in part because it was in one of my favorite 80s movies as a teenager: In the 90s, there was a cover by Frente! that was surprisingly lovely. And this one, which is tied with Enola Gay; I can't possibly choose! And I can't leave out Kate Bush! (though my true favorite of hers, Waking the Witch, is one I probably could not classify as pop) In terms of modern pop.. I love Florence Welch, Prince, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, all of the angsty 90s indie-pop groups...And St. Vincent, Janelle Monae, Stars, Ladyhawke, etc. OFFICIALLY, though, I think this is my favorite of the past 25 years: Last edited by Chiomara; 02-24-2017 at 02:22 AM. |

Bea Miller has been doing themed EP's in two month intervals. Blue and Red are now released. I prefer Blue immensely over Red, but there is something for someone on both.
Some may consider them "poppy", but the Goo Goo Dolls released a new ep and the song "Use Me" is just fantastic. Remember "Lost Boy" from that Ruth B. person? Well she released a whole album and it is seriously worth giving a try. I mean, Harry Styles released a solo album that rose above my expectations more than I ever thought it could. Becki Yates. Found her at random and ended up buying her album. Also will throw in KT Tunstall if you happen to have forgot her. the Crescent Moon album was very dark and mellow but KIN really takes her back to her old sound and there is a duet with James Bay if you're into him as well. My best recommendations of the minute.:3 |
