The Worst Of Mainstream/Pop

I'd like to see what bands/artists you think should be avoided. I'm at school so will post some videos when I get home but the duo Millionares is like trash in a dumpster.

You can mention artists for any reason - are they talentless? Are they racist/sexist/homophobic/etc? Is their ideas brainless or cliche'?

Wpnfire 07-08-2014 11:09 PM

Uh Bieber, Taylor Swift come to mind IMMEDIATELY.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-08-2014 11:12 PM

What's wrong with Taylor Swift? She's talented, has great vocals, writes her own music, appeals to a certain auidence and can switch between country and pop. If it's because she writes about ex's - give me a ****ing break.

You're right, I was probably too harsh. Too be fair though, it was all I heard at my school and I got kind of sick of it. Party in the USA is acceptable every month or so, but not every fing day.

Biebs is awful.

Party in the USA is by Miley Cyrus, not Taylor Swift. :)

So? Oh, whoops, I meant to include Cyrus in my first post.
My comment about Party in the USA being acceptable every month or so was supposed to be unrelated to the Taylor Swift comment.
I'm kinda tired, if you couldn't tell.

Frownland 07-08-2014 11:38 PM

Swift isn't all that bad just very bland, which is kind of the issue I have with most mainstream artists. I don't really listen to the radio that much but from what I've heard from Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber I can fairly say that they deserve a spot on the list.

EDIT: I just remembered Jennifer Lopez is pretty awful too.

I completely agree. I don't listen to the radio either.

djchameleon 07-09-2014 12:05 AM

Jennifer Lopez is a god damn Legend. She is super talented with her acting skills and dancing. Yeah she kind of phoned in her last album but she is a hard working latina. I need to stay out of this thread because I bet I will keep defending some of the silly names that get dropped.

Why would her acting and dancing mean anything to me? She was good in the cell I'll give her that but it's the music that's abhorrent. But to each their own, I guess it's popular for a reason.

Scarlett O'Hara 07-09-2014 12:11 AM

I believe J-lo is really hard working and is a great influence but her music is garbage. I love her fashion sense but her acting is sub par tbh.

Frownland 07-09-2014 12:13 AM

You can work really hard and still suck guys. Just look at Jimmy Carter.

Her acting/dancing goes into her complete package as a triple threat/entertainer. After putting out 9 albums they weren't all hits but her misses weren't that bad.

Being an entertainer and being an artist who makes good music are two entirely different things. Do you listen to albums to hear people dance and act? Please fill me in on your technique because that would probably make David Bowie 10x more enjoyable than he really is. I've heard her "hits" (I'd call them misses and a half but these are the ones that sold the most) and they do the opposite of the job for me. Like I said, to each their own.

djchameleon 07-09-2014 01:01 AM

The dance part comes in more from watching her music videos.

Yeah the acting could be excluded but not the dancing it is part of the package.

I think Frownie is saying that, like myself, he has little to no interest in dance. I had the same reaction to the MJ/Prince thread. I liked Prince's music better, much much much better. Had nothing to do with who was a better dancer. Prince IMO was a vastly better musician. Neither Frownie or myself have much interest as to entertainers, we like musicians.

I'm with you guys, I generally care about the musicians. With exception is Lady Gaga, she is just fab. Having the whole package in her case because she fits the standards of radio mainstream pop. The rest of the artists in that category do not interest me.

Ninetales 07-09-2014 09:50 AM

eh i am pretty ok with most mainstream artists i think. Theres a chick in my office that always blasts the pop radio and there only one song that actively annoys me and im not sure what its called. Could be Hedley idk but its very bad.

Oh and Biebs has some tasty jams and ill always defend that

James 07-09-2014 10:15 AM

Biebs does have some jams, especially Beauty And A Beat. Tune.
I hate the stuff people actually take seriously like Coldplay a thousand times more than any teen idol.

i like Robin in the character he plays on the real husbands of hollywood show but his music doesn't do anything for me

I've said this before in another thread but Blurred Lines does nothing for me. I don't directly hate the song, I just don't see the appeal of it.

Me neither man.. i don't see anything special or unique about him, to me he is more of a fad than a musician.

i hope he proves me wrong one day.

James 07-09-2014 03:22 PM

He only sold 550 copies of his album in Canada.

Black Francis 07-09-2014 03:23 PM

Regarding Coldplay.. i actually liked Coldplay a bit when they first started, i liked that song 'in my place' and 'trouble' but the bigger they got the more i grew tired of them and now i don't like them at all..

Not because they got popular but because i never thought they were that great to begin with, ive heard worst bands though..

What? We are talking about Blurred Lines right? That number is like 1% of what he actually sold in Canada.

I know they may have stolen most of the songs on the album, but Viva La Vida is probably my third or fourth favorite album of all time, for sure in my top 10. That psychedelic guitar work throughout that entire album is awesome.

Oh, well, you should have made that more clear cause me and Francis were talking about Blurred Lines so I assumed you were talking about that.

I never got that album but what do you mean when you say most songs are stolen?

that they ripped off riffs from other songs?

Blurred lines is the name of that last album.

You just said album and wasnt specific about which one you were referring to.

That's pretty much what a lot of people say happens. I'm of the opinion that there are only so many variations of ****ty pop songs so some are bound to sound alike. That's not to say there aren't ripoff artists though.

i agree and here is proof of it.

God these guys are annoying but they prove a point

if i ever used that chord pattern in a song my friends would smack me the sad thing is alot hit songs use it..

Actually, I was incorrect. I know way back when the album was release a whole bunch of bands accused Coldplay of stealing the melody to Viva La Vida, and actually, I just looked them up out of curiosity and all of the accusations were dropped or proved to be false.

Seems they all used the melody of some ancient composer in the songs, hence the similarities.

neardeathexperience 07-09-2014 07:15 PM

Blink 182, Billy Talent, Maroon 5, Headly, etc etc They are all just horrible on so many levels it just begs fro them to all quit.

in my eyes, there's nobody worth less in the mainstream than Pitbull.

Like, what is his purpose? He can't sing. He can't rap. He has zero charisma; personality or likable characteristic traits.
His music is consistently awful, he can't perform live and he has no musical talent. I don't think there's even been a music festival that would book him.
How on earth he got as big as he did, considering I've never met one person who said they're a Pitbull fan, boggles me.

Holy shit, Maanky and I agree about something! Seriously, Pitbull is the worst. Terrible producer, terrible rapper, zero charisma, fails all attempts to look like the cool king of the party—he's like watching some unfunny SNL sketch about a cheeseball producer.

****in A!
I hate him too i don't care if he is latino or whtvr, all he seems to do his repeat a few words over and over to the rhythm sorta like a less talented version of lil'jon..

yea his beats are alright but that's about it, maybe that's why he always doing collaborations.. cause he realises he has no talent on his own.
