Mumford are the worst.

DJ, you're tripping man.
You really think She's So Perfect is up there with the absolute worst music in the mainstream?

In my eyes, it's one of the better radio songs at the moment. It's fun, it's catchy, it's got sing-song vocals. What more does anyone want from a pop song. It's a big summer anthem.

I think you could make that case for a lot of the new boy bands, One Direction, Union J, etc. I could see why the concept of young males like that getting so much attention and fame might annoy people, but to say their music is the WORST stuff on radio is a far fetched statement.
As pop music, it's actually pretty good. I don't think there's a great difference between the quality of music they're putting out and what Backstreet Boys/Nsync before them put out.

And nobody at the time said either of those bands were the absolute WORST of radio.

James 07-12-2014 11:46 AM

Are you arseholes making fun of REM?

Nah I'm just saying they're not that good and someone emulating them with a banjo player isn't good either.

Wait, I thought everybody did. Wasn't that the point of boy bands? That every guy under the age of eighteen thought they were a crime against music and heterosexuality?

James 07-12-2014 12:08 PM

REM are that good.

I know REM are far from experimental, but hey Stipe and Buck were the best pop songwriters since Lennon/McCartney.

It doesn't really have to be experimental for me to like it, even though that's often the case. Something about their brand of pop just doesn't really attract me anymore (I did listen to Fables of Reconstruction with my dad as a kid, maybe I just got burnt out on them). If I were to give that title to someone it would be Jack and Meg White.

Third for Mumford and Sons. Throwing a banjo over dull indie pop does not make you a roots band.

YES.

PS. REM with a banjo is a vast understatement referring to how totally unoriginal Mumford & Sons are!

Ninetales 07-13-2014 12:05 PM

I uh like mumford and sons.

Come at me.

I don't even know who Mumford/Sons are. Sure I have the ability to learn who they are, were it not for the total lack of desire.

It's one of the lyrics to their most popular song.

Paul Smeenus 07-13-2014 04:00 PM

Oh. Well I guess my point is made then. :)

If your first thought is that this is a One Republic song then don't be embarrassed, cause I thought the same thing. I'm actually surprised that they're even more ****ty and generic than I'd remembered. And no that's not the band in the video.

Paul Smeenus 07-13-2014 05:30 PM

OneRepublic are a thousand times better than Mumford and Sons.

In all honesty the one One Republic song that I remember hearing I like a lot more than any Mumford and Sons song.

Frownland 07-13-2014 07:19 PM

I thought One Republic was a clothing store?

That's Banana Republic SOURCE: three older sisters.

Black Francis 07-13-2014 09:53 PM

i mixed up One republic with One direction cause i don't really care for either one of them. :p:

14232949 07-14-2014 11:05 AM

I'd take One Direction over One Republic, any day.

One Republic are like a less talented Coldplay.

Ryan Tedder is such an excellent song writer and is the creative mind behind so many hits from other artists.

14232949 07-14-2014 06:18 PM

here's a list of every song he's written

Ryan Tedder discography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

this guy should be tried for crimes against music. There isn't a good song on that list but plenty terrible ones.

Wpnfire 07-14-2014 09:18 PM

Just curious, are me and Briks the only ones on this entire site who like Coldplay?

Scarlett O'Hara 07-15-2014 12:05 AM

I will be hung to dry for this but I like Fix You and Princess Of China. That's it. The rest blows.

14232949 07-15-2014 07:17 AM

Nothing wrong with their first album.

You might not like them but they were hits and that's what I said regardless of your personal opinion of those songs.

You also said he was an excellent songwriter. I assume that's the part Maanky was disagreeing with.

It still falls back to him not liking them. I said he was an excellent songwriter that wrote hits.

My point is that he wrote hits regardless of Manky disliking them.

Someone could be an atrocious songwriter and still write hits. Maybe we could settle on describing him as a *successful* songwriter and call it good.

FTR I don't even know who we're talking about, just trying to help solve an apparent semantic argument.
