Bieber and One Direction. Didn't work their way up the music ladder, just shot straight into fame plus their songs are absolute ****.

I don't think it's common for mainstream pop artists to have put 10 years on the underground circuit in first.
If Bieber had, he'd have had to have started his music career around the same time he started education.
As for One Direction, they participated in a talent contest where the prize was a recording contract.
Not exactly hard to see how they got into the industry.
