A few days ago I was reading a critical piece in the Guaradian that somehow made it out that her original post was racist and I absolutely couldn't believe how anyone could read it as that and then I read this and it seems like plenty of other people have?? So bizarre, even before reading Lana's "defense" it was so very crystal clear to me she was mentioning the artists she mentioned as a positive example of women singing about whatever the fuck they want and it just so happens that most of the top female artists today are women of colour. How on earth did that turn into a racism row?? And also from the Guardian, Jesus. It must be exhausting being a celebrity. :/ |
It's pretty blatantly racist dawg. "Why can these dirty black whores shake their asses with zero criticism [sic] while a luxurious, glamorous, classy white woman like myself can't sing about my relationships without getting universal support?"
The self-centredness and seeming lack of self-awareness surrounding her post is more annoying than any potential racism. An artist at her level should know that critics ain't **** and that she's giving them more attention than they ever would have by being overly defensive and turning this into a thing. |
I've always suspected that she's not very bright. Where is her publicist? With each rambling statement she just dug herself deeper into a hole. "advocacy for fragility"??? I'm assuming she's just upset over a handful of reviewers rightfully questioning (I mean, Lana is now in her 30s, so the whole "help me I'm a sexy baby" schtick is getting old and weird) some of her more cringey lyrics. She barely does any promo and isn't a very good live performer, yet she is still doing extremely well and received praise and accolades for her last album so what is the issue? (And why on earth would she drag FKA Twigs into this-- Lana, you merely leaned against a pole in a music video for the ~aesthetic, you are not a trained dancer like Twigs) And I wish she'd pick up a book and read some Andrea Dworkin or something. She seems to confuse actual feminism with like internet Buzzfeed pop-feminism.

Actually, I didn't go too deep into this discussion but it seemed to me she was reacting to criticism of her music as being anti-feminist, which is why she felt the need to explain that there should be space also for women like her to sign about whatever they feel like without being accused of setting back the movement. Which I think is correct, is all...:/

I think she just released a book.

So Chemtrails didn't make a big splash I think and now she's got another one coming out. Let's see if that one is better. Didn't think much of the first one myself to be honest.
