Default Billy Joel

I can't believe there's no Billy Joel thread. Listening to him takes me back to when I was young and watching Oliver and Company.

It's hard to believe he invented the blast beat.

And...

The Stranger
52nd Street
Glass Houses
The Nylon Curtain

(and lastly)

Greatest Hits I&II

We've got a nice healthy share of Billy in our vinyl collection. My favourite of those is The Stranger; it will always remind me of another time and place in what will always feel like another life. There's just so much feeling in his music; you really can't go wrong when you need to cry something out (or feel nostalgic, or awesome, or whatever - he really does it all).

I don't understand why Attila's album is considered the worst in rock history. Am I the only one that thinks it kicks ass? I'd almost compare it to Deep Purple, just leaning more on the rock side.

An Innocent Man (though not my favorite style of music) and Storm Front were two of the best albums of the 80's. Billy Joel went downhill somewhat the next few years, but still he quit making pop music too soon. I don't think I can say that about any other long-running artist.

I was at a summer house about 2 or 3 years back, cocked and watching PBS. (it was a rager). Anyhow, at like 3 am Old Gray Whistle Test reruns from the 1970's come on and Billy Joel was one of them. He performed Miami 2017 and I was like "Holy ****, this guy can write things that aren't completely pop."

I always liked him, but I gained new respect for him with Miami...
