One of the more depessing songs about not being loved.

I include this song in the "anti-love song" thread because the man in the song is feeling the opposite of love: indifference.

I remember when this played often on the radio I'd always stop (work) and listen carefully to the lyrics. The lines that especially got to me, because how she sings them convey to me her hurt and then some anger, are these: "You made friends at the farm. You join 'em at the bar almost every single day of the week. I will wash the dishes while you go have a beeeeer."

I loved this song when it was out. I became a massive radiohead when I was 12/13 and this was really blowing up then. It came out at the same time as (or around the same time as) Poe's Angry Johnny which was also incredible.

I've never really cared for the Lillith Fair variety, but you can see why it emerged. Strong showing from the ladies in the late 90's.

But it's a wimpy song, so here's the Stones instead.

The Last Time - The Rolling Stones
"The Last Time"--a great depressing addition. I also agree that "Love Hurts" *is* perfect for this thread. Here, I tried to find a cover that is a little less wimpy than Roy Orbison's, followed by the Everly Brothers' original:

Joan Jett - "Love Hurts" (Cover)

Everly Brothers - "Love Hurts" ... written and composed by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant; recorded by The Everly Brothers in 1960

Heh..."Baby Bitch" is a good anti-love song, especially since it sounds so sweet.

I'd never heard Poe's "Angry Johnny" and think it counts as an anti-love song, since the lyrics are all about wanting to kill this Johnny person. Not much love there!

Poe - "Angry Johnny"

Nope, still wimpy. Well, Joan Jett is more bland than wimpy. But *here's* a version I do like:

Love Hurts - Nazareth

Mikel Erentxun: Love Letters (When There's no Love).

"Hoy te escribo esta carta ................................ Today I write this letter to you
porque siempre te quejabas ................................ because you always complained
de que nunca te enviaba ................................ that I never sent you
cartas de amor. ................................ love letters.
Decías que era frío, ................................ You said that I was cold,
que era todo indiferente, ................................ that I was completely indifferent,
y buscaste un continente ................................ so you sought out a continent
para entregar tu calor. ................................ where to give your warmth away.

Tal vez tu O.N.G. ................................ Maybe your N.G.O.
se pueda ocupar ................................ could see
de resucitar ................................ to resurrect
a hombres que ................................ men who
siguen vivos. ................................ are still alive.

Las cartas que no envías ................................ The letters you don't send
sólo son cartas marcadas: ................................ are nothing but marked cards:
te regalan una mano ................................ you get a hand
pero nunca un corazón. ................................ but never a heart.

Mi casa está pidiendo ................................ My home is crying out
una mano de pintura ................................ for a coat of paint
y algún punto de sutura ................................ and some stitch
y hacer punto final. ................................ and a full stop.
Y si estás en un país ................................ And if you are in a country
del África Central, ................................ in Central Africa,
busca pronto un hechicero ................................ look soon for a sorcerer
que me enseñe a olvidar. ................................ who teaches me to forget.

Cartas de amor ................................ Love letters
cuando ya no hay amor. ................................ when there's no love anymore.
Cartas de amor, ................................ Love letters,
pero sin dirección. ................................ but without an address.

Mi hospital de campaña, ................................ My field hospital,
mi amuleto de la suerte, ................................ my good luck charm,
una firme barricada, ................................ a firm barricade,
lo eras todo para mí. ................................ you were everything to me.
Pero hay cosas en la vida ................................ But there are things in life
que son mucho más reales ................................ that are much more real
que los ojos que las miran. ................................ than the eyes looking at them.

Dime que fuí para ti. ................................ Tell me what I was to you.
Dime que fuí para ti. ................................ Tell me what I was to you.
Dime si en algún momento ................................ Tell me if you ever
me llegaste a querer. ................................ loved me.

Cartas de amor ................................ Love letters
cuando ya no hay amor. ................................ when there's no love anymore.
Cartas de amor, ................................ Love letters,
pero sin dirección. ................................ but without an address.

The first song that comes to mind is, The J. Geils Band - Love Stinks. Its been so overplayed through the years I don't really care to hear it again.

I can bear Careless Whisper by George Michael though.

lol this song is associated to an ex of mines

You must be out of your mind!
This was a simple design!
You **** it up everytime
How could you leave me behind

It's alright, it's alright
'cause I know what you want
but you'll just have to wait
If I had it to give
I would give it away
I'm living it up
while I'm falling from grace
There's no way, there's no way that I'm running away

I'm used to making it worse
Made up of four letter words
You wanna know what it was
Now isolated and gone
You fall apart at the seams
I'll never know what it means
Try not to pull it apart
You're aiming straight from the heart
