Perhaps, if I were to so boldly suggest, if you think the lyrics are "worse than kesha" you simply do not "get" it. But I think it would take a particularly thick-skulled individual for that to be the case as Rebecca Black has the lyrical efficacy to sing about eating cereal. How could you not observe her lyrical proficiency when just about every person in America can relate to eating cereal? Surely it must be the fault of your New Zealand-er-ness.

At the end of the day, "Friday" is an American pop masterpiece and I eagerly anticipate more gems from the artist.

There's pop-metal, pop-rap, pop-soul, jazz-pop, country-pop, dream-pop, indie-pop, dance-pop, reggae-pop, and so on and so on....

But in the case of many of the most prominent "pop" artists of the moment (i.e. Lady GaGa/Ke$ha/BEP/etc.), I fail to see how "Yesterday is Thursday, today is Friday" is any more laughable than, for instance, the Black Eyed Peas listing off days of the week and blurting out random Jewish salutations in "I Gotta Feeling", or Lady GaGa utilizing baby-gibberish as lyrics in "Bad Romance", or talking about taking a ride on somebody's "disco stick", or Justin Beiber's one-word chorus in "Baby", etc. etc.

If you want to go back further, how about some early Beatles? "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah!" Wow. Rebecca Black can't compare to that genius. I'm not saying pop music is bad so much as saying it's bad to act like a condescending douche because you prefer one catchy four-chord tune with vacuously silly lyrical content to another.
Mm.

I honestly don't even think you read his post, or you're just analyzing it completely wrong and are getting snippy.

The Beatles have a lot of terrible songs lyrically that they are well-known for; outside of forums like this, as hard as it is to believe, a lot of people really only know tracks like "I Want To Hold Your Hand", and it's safe to say that a lot of The Beatles' longevity is shelved (at least for face value) in their most derivative songs... Really, many of their early songs and even some later on in their career were incredibly dumb lyrically. Does that make The Beatles or their songs bad? No. But it does it mean Rebecca Black should be disparaged when the most critically-acclaimed in the world has done the same many times over? Also no.

Therefore, it's a safe comparison. A lot of well-known songs from ALL DECADES feature terrible lyrics. We remember some in better light than others. But why is all of the hate being dished out here when there are so many others that are even worse? This hasn't even come close to reaching the plateau of inept lyricism.

Tick-tock on the clock,
But the party don't stop, no,
Woah-oh oh oh,
Woah-oh oh oh

Laughing about this:

It’s Friday, Friday,
Gotta get down on Friday,
Everybody’s looking forward to the weekend

It's like a bunch of Def Leppard fans making fun of Poison fans.

And for the record, I wasn't comparing Rebecca Black as an artist to The Beatles as artists, I was comparing the lyrics of "Friday" to some early Beatles lyrics that people tend to place on a pedestal because of the names in the credits rather than because of their actual merit. But sure, feel free to go listen to "Love Me Do" and pretend like it's not just as much a load of lyrical horse**** as this song is. Not that I'm saying that's necessarily a bad thing; I realize it's just a goofy, happy-go-lucky pop song that isn't exactly intended to cause one to sit back and contemplate the meaning of life.... but neither is this musical atrocity.
I understand where you are coming from and they both have silly simplistic lyrics but that how is that bad/wrong to have a preference and like one over the other. I'm pretty sure in whatever genre you love there are bands/artists that are similar and you prefer one band over the other for whatever personal reason.

No, I read it. I understand what he is saying but I just don't agree with the sentiment. The main reason I got a little snippy was because he basically called me and others like me douches for having personal preferences. Sure, they have a very similar formula and simple lyrics but that doesn't mean we can't like one artist over another AND make fun of the artist that we don't like.

I think he was being general with his comments here.

I thought I might have mis-read that part at the time but you are right

omfg what? what?

I love these two girls though compared to Rebecca!

The first one is okay but there were a few things that bothered me. I normally don't care about singing voices but the use of autotune didn't help hers in anyway, she was still pitchy in certain areas

the second girl. I would put my full support behind her and buy her cds. She has potential. I like the fact that she attempts a little dance routine. Sure it's a pretty simple one but it fit with the video.

I feel like this production company is pulling some sort of social experiment. They went up into a school and grabbed up some random girls and said we are going to make you stars based off our production alone because we are THAT good.

To save myself from sounding like a creep as I know what girls Ark likes to get, I'll say that blondie is very... pretty. But ya, those songs are terrible. Still though, they pale in comparison to Friday, and that's saying something.
