Again, you compare her to people who she has nothing in common with. Jedward have done what exactly? They may be mocked by the public as well, but the massive difference here is that they are happy for the fame, and they chase it. They encourage people to mock them because they crave the attention.

Susan Boyle is a completely different story as well, she is an underdog that people really got behind. A story of triumph for the everyday people in a world obsessed with celebrity and image, and here is a frumpy woman who shocks the world by showing that talent is not always packaged in a pretty 20 something with a size zero body.

Neither are anything like Rebecca Black.

There is so much wrong with pop music these days, terrible lyrics, clichéd videos, autotune everywhere etc, that her song is basically a perfect parody of the current pop music scene. But because she wasnt parodying it, she has been placed by millions of elitist snobs worldwide as the face that represents the death of music (the same snobs who have been sending her death threats). She hasnt chosen to be that face, she didnt market herself as a pop sensation, she merely made a song and video that was put on youtube (by her parents and ARK Music Factory) which took off because of how bad the song and singing was.

That is why her life is ruined (for the immediate future at least, in a few years her profile should decrease I'd imagine and she can go back to some semblance of normality), and no amount of money will make up for losing your childhood, just ask Michael Jackson.
This is a great post, I absolutely agree with you. Particularly about Susan Boyle.

Part of being in the public eye is attracting criticism and it is how you deal with it. I think you are overreacting with the death threats and everyone hating her. Life ruined? Jeez. She is young and has the rest of her life ahead of her. Most of that post is bull ****!
I agree with most of this post except for the last line.

She did the song, she got noticed, she's living her 15 minutes of fame. What she chooses to do with that recognition now is up to her. If I were her, I would retreat back into obscurity and then pop up five years later with a decent song and use her past recognition as a catapult to jar people's memory about who she is and they get to see that she really can see and is a decent artist.

I'm not saying the exact same will happen to Rebecca Black, but it is clearly a possibility that you should not dismiss so easily.

As for me overreacting to the death threats, how am I supposed to react? Are you seriously condoning the actions of anonymous people sending death threats to a 13 year old girl? Seriously?
It doesn't really matter where she originated from she is technically a celebrity and when even internet celebrity have to deal with the same things as other celebrities so the comparison is fine. You are pretty much arguing semantics at this point.

Just because one person needs psychiatric help because he couldn't handle the fame that doesn't mean that everyone handles fame in the same way and WILL automatically need it.

The whole death threats thing is moot because it's just internet tough guys talking out of their ass and they won't ever do anything about it. Yes, she might feel bad/worried for a little bit but when she realizes that the internet has ALWAYS been like this then she'll get over it.

I don't condone death threats over the internet but it's not as big of a deal like you are making it out to be.

manages to make the song fun and bouncy whilst the original was some bullshit semiotic pro-feminism pretentious doodoo under the cover of macho cockrock

if you wanna do it pro-feminist, at least use Aztec Camera's angle - po-faced folk protest song (still my fave version of Jump)

It will then be put on Youtube for you and your daughter to show off to friends and family. They dont actually care about the singers, they are a business and looking to take advantage of parents with a love of seeing their child happy and a fat chequebook.
I don't see how they're taking advantage of parents.

Loads of teenage girls want to be pop stars, If you had a daughter really into pop music and if you can afford to have someone write them a song and make them a music video as a gift or a special treat why wouldn't you?

It's no more exploitive than me as a child watching an England football match & wanting an England kit to wear while I played football or be taken to a match. Or me deciding I want to go on holiday somewhere & someone deciding to book it for me.

This is all harmless guff.

I am sorry Evil Chuck and everyone who said it was a great post. No it was not. At the end of the day Rebecca Black is a girl that released a song on You Tube, it has millions of hits and because it was so bad she has had a lot of negative publicity for it in terms of you tube comments and supposed death threats over the internet.

It was her decision to sing the song, she released it, so she should take the responsibility for her actions. There is no way it would have been released without her permission. These death threats are coming from keyboard warriors hiding behind a pseudonym on the internet, they do not mean them.

They are probably small, scared kids who would do nothing of the sort in real life. The whole thing has been a massive reaction by the media and a PR stunt. Sorry it was not a good post from Evil Chuck!

It was her parent's decision not Rebecca's. They were the ones that paid Ark to do it in the first place. Without that this song would have never been made.

Don't forget that she is 13 years old which makes her a minor and under the responsibility of her legal guardians. To place the burden solely on her doesn't make any sense in this situation.

I agree except for the solely her fault thing. It's really her parents fault because even if she didn't want to her parents are the ones that paid for it. So the whole permission thing is moot.

The first song is another neutering of the original source material. Though I wonder what in the Van Halen version would be considered "pro-feminist" by Il Duce.

The second one was pretty decent. It was actually better than the original song.
