Also her life will be a bit harder for at least the next 6 months. She can't get into music because people aren't going to take her seriously after Friday. Finally we are not overreacting to everyone hating on her. No one likes this song and even Rebecca herself admits to receiving death threats. Even the news reporters that cover the god damn song are taking subtle shots at it while they are covering the story. I have never heard anyone on the internet, television, or on the street say with a straight face that Rebecca Black is a decent artist. |

Do you know how the ARK Music Factory works? They advertise specifically for talented girls aged 13-17 who have no material of their own. For a high price to the parents they will write a song, record (and autotune) your daughter singing it, and produce a video for it. It will then be put on Youtube for you and your daughter to show off to friends and family. They dont actually care about the singers, they are a business and looking to take advantage of parents with a love of seeing their child happy and a fat chequebook. As much as she may have wanted to be a pop star, she would never have known that the amount of attention she has recieved would be like it has been. But people are past the point of commenting on how bad the song is, they are commenting on her as a person. People like me who defend Rebecca Black, would never sit here and tell you that she has made a perfect pop song. But I will sure as hell defend her as a person, because as bad as the song is she is just a 13 year old girl. If you want to compare her to anyone, you should compare her to someone who has a similar story to their fame like the Star Wars Kid. He also had a video put on youtube, that became an internet meme with millions of people worldwide mocking him. He has had years of psychiactric help for the trauma the experience of being the butt of everyone's jokes has caused him. There's no such thing as bad publicity though, isnt that right? I'm not saying the exact same will happen to Rebecca Black, but it is clearly a possibility that you should not dismiss so easily. As for me overreacting to the death threats, how am I supposed to react? Are you seriously condoning the actions of anonymous people sending death threats to a 13 year old girl? Seriously? |

Loads of teenage girls want to be pop stars, If you had a daughter really into pop music and if you can afford to have someone write them a song and make them a music video as a gift or a special treat why wouldn't you? It's no more exploitive than me as a child watching an England football match & wanting an England kit to wear while I played football or be taken to a match. Or me deciding I want to go on holiday somewhere & someone deciding to book it for me. This is all harmless guff.

I am sorry Evil Chuck and everyone who said it was a great post. No it was not. At the end of the day Rebecca Black is a girl that released a song on You Tube, it has millions of hits and because it was so bad she has had a lot of negative publicity for it in terms of you tube comments and supposed death threats over the internet.
It was her decision to sing the song, she released it, so she should take the responsibility for her actions. There is no way it would have been released without her permission. These death threats are coming from keyboard warriors hiding behind a pseudonym on the internet, they do not mean them. They are probably small, scared kids who would do nothing of the sort in real life. The whole thing has been a massive reaction by the media and a PR stunt. Sorry it was not a good post from Evil Chuck! |

Don't forget that she is 13 years old which makes her a minor and under the responsibility of her legal guardians. To place the burden solely on her doesn't make any sense in this situation. Quote:

I also said the comparison with Star Wars kid and his psychiatric issues were a possibility, not a definite. There is no way to gauge now how she will be affected long term by this, but as I said, its possible that it will affect her deeper than we realise right now. Quote:
Having said that, you're probably right. If I could afford something that my kids wanted, I'd almost certainly pay for it (within reason). But I'm still of the mindset that ARK are exploiting the dreams of young people to make a quick buck. Quote:

She did the song, she got noticed, she's living her 15 minutes of fame. What she chooses to do with that recognition now is up to her. If I were her, I would retreat back into obscurity and then pop up five years later with a decent song and use her past recognition as a catapult to jar people's memory about who she is and they get to see that she really can see and is a decent artist. Just because one person needs psychiatric help because he couldn't handle the fame that doesn't mean that everyone handles fame in the same way and WILL automatically need it. The whole death threats thing is moot because it's just internet tough guys talking out of their ass and they won't ever do anything about it. Yes, she might feel bad/worried for a little bit but when she realizes that the internet has ALWAYS been like this then she'll get over it. I don't condone death threats over the internet but it's not as big of a deal like you are making it out to be.
