Oh I agree it isn't all about PS, but like I said, from the time the two bands were both active, I prefer The Beatles.

The Beach Boys kind of have a linear quality to them, a lot of their music sounds the same. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't a point in their favor either.

And Smile is awesome, I'm wondering how different rock music would be if it was released back then. It's better than,Pet Sounds and nearly as good as Revolver/Pepper/White Album/Abbey Road

LOL just kidding. I had to do that. Sorry.

No but in all seriousness, I prefer the Beatles if only slightly. Both have some great albums, but when it came to the two groups branching out from their roots, I felt that the Beatles' later albums are much better. The Beach Boys have great vocal harmonies, and I like their style and everything, but I always found Pet Sounds a little overrated, and I felt like the Beatles did some things that were more unique on The White Album or Abbey Road, for example. Love the album, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think it was on the same level as some others seem to I guess.

In a nutshell, the Beatles' catalog when they were both active was much better IMO.

LOL!

Actually... I do lol

R&B/Soul and Funk are my favorite genres and P-funk are definitly one of my favorite bands ;)

You're right about the Beach Boys sound. Their songs are repetitive sounding but I think their sound is unique. I respect the Beatles my favorite is John Lennon. I love him! I love alot of his solo material. I like some of the Beatles material as well but they are not the "end all be all" of music to me and there are bands that I prefer over them. I always preferred The Rolling Stones. They were just more funkier to me lol

But Smile is better than anything Beatles ever did, but still, Beatles win because of their diversity.
But those band are pretty different so why should we do this comparison?

REALLY? I love Smile, but how do you figure? BETTER THEN ANYTHING THEY EVER did bold statement...

Well, maybe not...but I'm not sure. They are kinda equal plus the Beatles weren't gods after all...so maybe someone's else has been able to equal them, not sure about surpassing them though. But Smile is just a masterpiece.

Don't overcompensate for your Beatles love by downplaying, of course they were gods and no they were not kind of equal with the Beach Boys. They towered above them.

You're daft and being so are rendered irrelevant. As taxman said himself, Smile is a masterpiece. I don't think any one Beatles album comes close to it. Then again, I don't think the Beatles have one singular album that is truly outstanding. I think they really excelled at making fantastic songs, contrary to popular belief, and though I'd say I prefer more of their albums than what I've heard from the beach boys, I'd take three amazing beach boys albums over any Beatles album without a doubt.

And for consistency that goes for neil young too

Taxman 01-08-2014 03:39 AM

I love the Beatles but loving them can not mean that I can't place anyone above them. Then it was that kind of HC fan stuff that ignore. Nobody's perfect, nobody's god, we all are human after all.
Beatles strength was their consistency. Same goes for Neil. (expect the eighties...though I like Trans)
