I think Brian as late as 1978 could have been "saved" to great effect. Love You showed that he still had some awesomely inventive arranging chops and then M.I.U. suggested he had a salvageable voice locked away too. Unfortunately whatever Landy did to the guy in the '80s caused him to lose complete nuance and control of his voice and made him have to rely on creative collaborators ever since.
Yes, I´ve heard that misgiving about "Wouldn´t It Be Nice" too, and it´s certainly rather suspicious, the way Dr.Landy is painted out to be the only saint and saviour in the whole book. Here´s an early depiction of Dr. Landy surrounded by the Wilson family which was excluded from the final edition of the book:-

Spoiler for Dr. Landy with the Beach Boys:

Well, the voices of singers usually degenerate over the years. How about Neil Young or Bob Dylan ? You don´t need a Dr. Landy to lose your voice...also, we shouldn´t rule out the fact that maybe BW has deliberately changed his attitude or style...

Always found 'Love You' to be very good album.

Anyway, I have also heard that autobiography was mostly written by Landy and so I would not believe everything what it says.
And yes, that Guardian article was pretty interesting to read.
Did you like the Gershwin album, Taxman ? After hearing one track and some bad reviews, I´ve left it alone myself.

Yeah, I did like it. I'm not that much into Gershwin's works but that album is good. And yes, voices usually change, but it different thing to LOSE your voice

As far as I am concerned The Beatles win by a nose (but a big nose!).

As a long run, Beatles is better, more consisted albums, and seven (or eight) classic albums +Past Masters.
But Smile is better than anything Beatles ever did, but still, Beatles win because of their diversity.
But those band are pretty different so why should we do this comparison?

I'm surprised you're saying this considering that you're a fan of 1960s music, because these two bands since then have been constantly compared to each other since then.

I know it but it is kinda unfair comparison cos they were pretty different bands and also comparing anyone to Beatles is unfair.

Also because they both are my favorites and I love them both more than I can describe, I can't decide which one is better so that comparison makes me feel uncomfortable.

I favor the Beach Boys. They were one of the first cassette tapes my mom gave me as a kid to listen to.
