I haven't yet. But I will. I'm determined to get to the bottom of this Beach Boys love.

Oh, and I have a question. And I ain't taking the piss. But does the lead singer ever smile? I've seen him on TV playing live shows, gigs, festivals, what have you, and man he looks so miserable. The rest of the band are all chirpy, but he always looks proper down in the dumps.

The BB's have two lead singers - Mike Love and Brian Wilson. Not sure which one you're talking about.

In one of my "comparison" pages I've got concert footage of both bands. Might want to look for smiles (or lack thereof) in those.

And BTW, if you want to skip to what I consider to be The Most Important Comparison Of All, go to the one at the top of page 64.

I added a new contest here. Spent the longest time trying to think of a Beatles song to pair against "Good Vibrations" when, just a short time ago, I had a "duuuh" moment. ;)

There's nothing to get to the bottom of. You either like them or you hate them.

TBH I think I've seen more love & hate sentiment for the Beatles than for the Beach Boys. The Beach Boys are either "yay!" or "meh"...

I know. Forgive my facetism. It was a tongue in cheek remark, said in jest, with good intention. :)

Is it the man at the piano that never smiles? That's Brian, he has schizoaffective shit going on.

Mr. Charlie 11-01-2013 10:44 PM

Yeah, Brian. That's it. So he's a mentalist? My bad. :(

Surell 11-01-2013 11:12 PM

Ah hoot, it's no problem, that just may be the reason why he seems a little more down. I've heard he's actually fairly detached when he performs live, and that the backing band is really doing the work there.

I've tried so many damn times to get into The Beatles and never made it very far. I liked the very early stuff a bit but they got all psychedelic and I'm really iffy with that kinda stuff. Beach Boys all the way.
