....and you're also one of the few people on the forum that admits to liking Bush as well.

Pet Sounds was good, after '65 Beatles were great. I don't have a Beach Boys T-Shirt either, its a Beatles one.

Brian Wilson was a genius, the rest of the Beach Boys constantly presented obstacles to his progression musically and as a songwriter. Even with a 188 IQ, if you don't have the right people surrounding you, you're just not going to be able to compete with a group like the Beatles. The harmonies and backing vocals that Brian pioneered have influenced a number of bands, my particular reference is RHCP>

Pet Sounds for me will always rival anything The Beatles have done, but as a catalog and as a legacy, I don't think it's even a debate that the Beatles impact was considerably more profound and long-lasting.

I don't see why Smile doesn't enter the argument more often. Even incomplete it's one of the greatest albums i've ever heard, and easily could have carried pop music's future had it come out in its intended time, in a much larger, deeper sense than Pet Sounds even.

I'm gonna go and say Beatles were great. Second to them though, I'd have to say that the Monkeys were alright too. Not as great, but some songs were pretty good.

If you take their respective best outputs and let The Beach Boys have SMiLE now that it's gotten an official release, I have to give it to The Beach Boys - both scratch a similar itch for me, and The Beach Boys just do it so much better. Plus, as far as their golden era went, they never made an "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da"
