Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder), Caroline No and God Only Knows

i say beach boys..

just think of the beatles..
you had John, Paul, George, three ppl writing songs.. all amazing musicians..

Now the beach boys?

only Brian comes to mind.

Pet sounds is amazing.. even the instrumental ones are great.
Call me crazy but brian's songs have more feeling in them.

Yeh I know, I said something about that elsewhere or here sometime. That gives The Beatles music some variety, but you could say there is more unity to The Beach Boys music as there is one person that is behind most of it.

Sometimes I also feel that I might actually love some other music more than The Beatles, again probably because when one person is behind a piece it is more personal and direct. Hard to deny the achievement, professionalism and variety of The Beatles though.

There was a lot more to the Beach Boys than just Brian Wilson. Dennis and Carl each wrote songs (some among my favorites; especially "Feel Flows" and "Forever"), took turns on lead vocals ("God Only Knows" and "Do You Wanna Dance?" and others). The Beatles were both more diverse and consistent, but the Beach Boys were pretty close behind.

One reason I think the Beatles are better is because there were 3 great songwriters and musicians in the band. All three could do so much.

Beach Boys had five, actually

Mike Love's Big Sur saga is engaging, Al Jardine wrote some great soul songs (check out the Wild Honey album), Dennis Wilson is massively underrated (anyone else here a fan of Pacific Ocean Blue?) Carl Wilson wrote some pretty rockin' songs

not to mention Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, who was in BB for a coupla albums, who both wrote some terif blues-rock

I'm not sure anyone was the equal of Brian Wilson though, whereas with The Beatles Lennon and McCartney ended up seeming to compete against each other and spurring the other on.

that's how i feel too.

i feel the beatles had an advantage over the beach boys .
even their transition to adapting to the 60's mindset was easier..
the beach boys were like and american tradition, their transition took time to appreciate. i tend to favour the BB just cause ppl favour the beatles. and to me the BB are equally good but very different.. yea, the songs sound alike, but then again, not at all..

i actually like Lenon's solo career better than the beatles.

The Beatles really do sh*t all over The Beach Boys. Let's at least be honest.
