They're both overrated, and I honestly don't think the Beach Boys are that remarkable even after hearing 'Pet Sounds'. So, I'll go with Beatles.

I still prefer listening to the music of The Beach Boys over The Beatles music.
But don't get me wrong, I still like The Beatles music as well.
I in no way agree, The Beatles are 10 times better than The Beach Boys.

I have to say the Beatles because it's what I know. With the Beach Boys, I don't really know where to go after Pet Sounds and as nice of an album as that is it can't really compete with all the Beatles albums I enjoy.

The Beach Boys for vocals and harmonies, without question. The Beatles for just about everything else.
However, I do put Brian Wilson on equal footing with Lennon/McCartney in terms of song writing ability. And considering Brian Wilson did more of it by himself (George Harrison >>>> Mike Love), it only makes what the Beach Boys actually did much more impressive. But, the best fact of both bands was they pushed each other creatively and inspired some of the best music of the decade. Especially hearing the story of SMiLE and Brian Wilson going insane with the pressure of trying to top the Beatles and how much work he put into all of it. I'm not discounting the drugs and mental issues he was already dealing with, but Brian Wilson had a passion unmatched by almost anyone.
From the accounts I've read, Brian would be completely schizo outside the studio, but when he was playing the music he was just fine. This a demo of Surf's Up he recorded only a few weeks before SMiLE was abandoned and Brian completely hit rock bottom. I rarely feel emotion in music from the artist's perspective. But you can hear the pain in his voice and how fragile the song is. It's truly a beautiful track, without a doubt one of my favorite Beach Boys songs.

There is no contest, yet it's clear that I like the Beatles. They are legend. The Beach Boy is also a excellent bank. I don't like contest at all.:pssst:
