To be honest, I rarely buy albums...it gets annoying to like just one song and then the other 90 percent of the album turns out to be crap. But I like "Captain of her Heart"...a very calming and pretty song and I miss those saxophone solos that crept up now and again in eighties music such as in this particular song and are rather extinct these days.

I've been on a synth music kick lately (again), so I thought of this thread. Here are some bands not mentioned (I think)
Propaganda, German synth pop, new wave band. Some of you may remember them for this song 'Dr. Mabuse', especially. The whole album A Secret Wish is quite good. My favorite is the opening track 'Dream Within a Dream', jazzy, ambient and with some New Romantic feel. 'Dr. Mabuse' 'Dream Within a Dream' The Associates I really like this Scottish band. Fourth Drawer Down and Sulk are both excellent albums, with distinct acrobatic vocals, and again New Romantic vibe. Sulk is more poppy and so for this thread I've chosen the song "Club Country". (Eh, I have to include another one, it's my favorite) The Associates - No And speaking of Ultravox, I love John Foxx's solo album Metamatic. Cold, cold synths...brrrr! I love it, very futuristic. "Underpass"

Propaganda's A Secret Wish is a fantastic album and has many elements of experimentalism in my eyes.
The sleeve notes are great too (copied from my C.D): NOISE INFORMATION: Clicks at 13'05, 13'06, 14'05 - vocal;track five slight vocal & synth clicks evident throughout; track six 'pop' at 31 57 21 and clicks at 32 57 29 and 33 51 26 + 20 db peak at 53 05 27. THERE IS NO CAUSE FOR CONCERN! Well worth a listen and a hidden gem for sure. Cross Talk Talk, Art Of Noise and German Electronica and you are sort of there.

Only Propaganda album I got is 1234 which is not that good, and recorded with a different line-up. Haven't really heard any solo John Foxx, though I love his Ultravox! stuff. |
