Well said Jaz. Who cares what the artist is doing - making movies/filming commercials/making expensive music vids - a good song is a good song regardless of everything else!! At the end of the day it's just about people's opinions as to what they think is good or not. But in this day and age, if you like someone that is only making music, you'll have a hard time finding anything to listen to! These days it's all about the videos and image of the artist too. And, yeah some say that it should only be about the song, but hey, if it makes it more enjoyable who cares? You don't have to buy the product that is being endorsed, or watch the music video, just listen to the song/buy the album only!

I realise a number of people around here are 'anti-mainstream' naturally, but just because something or someone becomes hugely successfull it shouldn't detract from the high standard it derives from in this case Jacksons singles after Off The Wall. I try and look past the hype, afterall a choon is a choon even if Britney Spears is shaking her tic tacs to it!
It`s not a case of being anti mainstream at all. To me Off The Wall shows his roots & his influences. R&B , Soul , Motown of which i`d rather listen to than a load of soulless 80s pop rock or cheesy ballads, which to me is what most of his late 80s early 90s material is.

I just can't relate to how anyone could dismiss classics such as 'Man in the Mirror' and 'Dirty Diana' as 'soulless 80's pop rock'

I just have a hatred of big 80s rock ballads , Dirty Diana was one of biggest of them.

Man in the mirror wasn`t too bad though , i`m not saying he turned totally crap (That happened in the mid 90s ) I`m just saying I don`t like it as much.

Oh c'mon I'm sure your feet where tapping to a few of the 90's beats. I could just imagine you bopping away to 'Heal The World'. Bless
