Tatas debut English album with Columbia Records I Believe hit 9x platinum in her home country; achieved the amazing feat of selling over 300,000 units in Japan as a new artist; and struck Gold in many Asian countries. But she doesn't really seem like a Britney Spears to me. Although I do enjoy the energy she puts out in the second video. Her performances must be quite lively.

I can't see how somone who's success and profile doesn't stretch any further than Asia and India can be called "one of the biggest stars on the planet".

I like her music..but if you ask the typical pop fan in the US who she is..they won't know.

well India has over a BILLION people living there, that's 3 times the population of the United States, and the Asian continent accounts for a full 2/3rds of the planets population.... so... yeah... i think being huge in an area that accounts for the vast majority of the population of the planet would justify being called one of the biggest stars on the planet.

doesn't make her music any less lame or generic though.

Those 300M americans may be small compared to China and India, but with the juggernaught that the US economy has become I would debate that to be a true international pop star u need the US$ (even if it is declining). depends on what's more important to the culture, no? is it better to have a smaller but materialistically wealthy culture? or a larger population with less material goods?

Thanks for introducing her, but she's not the number one pop star around because I have not heard of her! She's lovely. Kind of reminds me of Cheryl Cole from Girls Aloud.
