Granted I've only just recently listened to her actual albums, but is song writing really the point with Ke$ha?

These are two seperate things:

1. The progression of her songwriting abilities.

2. Your level of interest in her progression (in this regard).

In short, I don't give a **** how little you care about her songwriting abilities.

But if you meant that as a non-subjective, universal comment (your original post) then, yes, her songwriting ability has progressed and it does matter. I assume its a collaborative effort, but she herself is at least opting for music with more song-craft than was on Animal or Cannibal.

To that end, I think she brings her style to more sophisticated music, and thats what I really enjoy. She seems to have a similar mentality to AC/DC in that "sure, you can be fancy, but that isn't very fun."

Ke$ha has a place in my music collection because she gets it. Theres a whole lot of people posting for the covers of magazines and making ambient, boring, bull**** music. Meanwhile, she rolls around in glitter before a show, writes some killer hooks, and has a dancing penis on stage. She's not looking to get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame, but she might because she isn't looking to blow your mind aurally. She's just looking to write tunes that might actually get you laid.

On her behalf, you're welcome.

I could see you really getting into her! Tell us when you've been how she was.

LoathsomePete 05-12-2013 12:05 AM

I've somehow gotten roped into agreeing to see her next month in California. Honestly it's a little uncanny because before yesterday I had never really heard a Kesha song before. I didn't particularly care for the song she did with Iggy Pop because I'm not into that kind of music, but I can at least understand why it would be popular.

I'm treating this more like an anthropological expedition and I have to say I'm genuinely interested in what I can conclude from the data I gather.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-12-2013 01:07 AM

Haha, I'm interested in finding out if she can sing live or whether its enhanced or taped. Both of you will need to bring back full reports of the show.

I think it all depends on the song that she's singing. You'd hear her sounded better on slower more thoughtful songs like Wonderland, Past Lives and Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You.

When she's jumping around and being hyper on her faster songs you get audio like the one that was posted earlier.

As far as her songwriting abilities go. The end of Warrior is where it's at and I ended up enjoying that a bit more than the first half of the album Crazy Kids is just plain fun though. She split Warrior into two her more fun type tracks at the start then it tapers off to showcase her singing ability more.

Thats the best way to approach a concert in my mind - like a math problem.

Also, is that Chester Benngington in your avatar?

Have you been to her show? Well I can definitely see what you're saying, I'm sure she is a decent singer but I've just heard her singles and its hard to tell whether its her singing well or studio enhancements.

By approaching it like a math problem it kind of makes the idea that I'm willingly going to a Kesha concert easier to swallow. It's not because I enjoy her music, I'm just gathering research data.

And now, it's Jay Munly, here's a larger version of my avatar

No I haven't seen her show to compare it too. I'm mostly basing my claims off of live videos that I have watched on youtube.

Okay, I can't say I've bothered to look at them because I'm personally not that worried about listening to her but good on you!

have you heard her acoustic type songs where she has stripped down the production?

If you have then you wouldn't say that at all.

Agreed. I think people assume she's manufactured like other artists with a similar sound.

Ugh, and now the courts have hurt her again with their latest decisions about contracts between K and Dr. Luke :( Guy needs to let this poor girl go already.

Dear The Batlord,

What do you think of the that new Ke$ha song?

Sincerely,
Mindfulness

The Batlord 12-14-2019 07:39 PM

I thought it was eh. The last one was better and sounded like it might bridge her last record with her earlier stuff but I don't know if that's just a ploy to rope in people who remember "Ke$ha" or if she's actually rediscovering the fun of those earlier songs.

I'll withold judgement until I hear the album though. I made the mistake of judging the early singles from Rainbow too harshly and that album turned out to be fire, even the songs I didn't like.

I tend to do that with some hyped up rap albums, by listening to the singles too much to where its time for the album, im already tired of them songs :o:

I liked this new slower song though called resentment

More like white trash Cleopatra.

Neapolitan 02-20-2020 07:50 PM

No, not really. First off Cleopatra use crushed shells of the scarab beetles for eyeliner which Kesha lacks. Cleopatra also had braids and gold trinkets in her hair, both which Kesha apparently doesn't have. This is more like "It's raining cats and dogs and I left my umbrella at home" look.
