So I consider myself a rocker and love alternative music like the tap-dancing child I will one day have. But I have a guilty confession to make…I love pop music. I love it so much that I want to roll around in it. I want to rub it over my skin and swallow it and poop it out again. The more trashy pop is, the more I love it. The more it reeks of plastic and fakery the more I want to shove it up my nostrils. The more booty shaking I see the more I want. The more money being tossed around on screen the more I squeal with delight.

I like pop because it’s never had scruples about what it is. Its shameless industry manufactured music catering for the masses…it’s called pop because it’s POPULAR music. It’s not supposed to be niche or indie or moral or make some kind of deep and intellectual statement. It’s there to make money. Pop is what it is; disposable music useful to shake your ass to, to make you feel stupidly happy and to sing to in the shower. With lyrics like “lucky my breasts are small and humble so you don’t confuse them with mountains” we’re not heading for poet laureate status here. But if the beat is tight we will dance all night. And that, my friends, is all that matters about pop.

Now, if pop is disposable, trashy and shamelessly sexual in order to sell more records and holds nothing sacred…then why try being anything less? That is why Lady Gaga is such an inpiration

I mean LOOK AT HER. She’s like slut Barbie. It’s like industry needed a polythene cut-out money horse and came up with this! And if you’re already that plastic, hell, why not go ALL THE WAY! I want pop stars to be even MORE shameless, even MORE provocative, even MORE fake and open about the fakery that is their music.

Hell, I want their voices so synthesized they’d make Richard Hawking sound natural. I want them wrapped in plastic and ****ting out money. I want them rolling around in corporate ****. I want Enrique Iglesias bent over and taking it from his record producer while he simultaneously chokes out dollars and cents like poker chips and sings “I can be your Hero.” I want Britney Spears dry-humping my television screen. I want it and I want it on my MTV every second of every day.

The beauty is, when I don’t want to listen to it anymore, I can just put in my ipod and listen to my alternative music. That’s what it’s there for…TO BE AN ALTERNATIVE. Just don’t think it exempts you from the system or any kind of conformity

WTF is the point of this aside from expressing the painfully obvious about pop music. congrats! you like the musical equivalent of gorging yourself at MacDonald's, you're the personification of the attitude that bacon needs to be wrapped in cheese then wrapped in more bacon, but it's ok because you can make a salad at home if you can manage to make the effort. cheers on fattening your head to the point of worthless corporate obesity. way to go.

and who is Richard Hawking? or did you mean Stephen Hawking? based on the comment about a synthesized voice i think you fail at google.

who needs fair and equal treatment when you can shake your tits for a dollar? what's self-respect worth when you can flash your gash for coin? it's all you really need to get ahead in the pop world. just pray that you don't grow up ugly or too poor to afford the surgery.

i mean really, these women are millionaires, look at the 'power' they wield, money falls at their feet - so long as they're still topical and popular. WTF happens to them after they fall out of the spotlight? BACK TO THE POLE!

what an amazing message to be presenting to the next generation of women, all the mothers of the future. fuck equality, forget respect, ditch the feminist movement your mothers and grandmothers helped establish to someday hopefully level the social playing field. you don't need any of it if you've got great tits.

Alright, I just wanna make a quick statement on what you said. In the early 90's a beautiful thing called third wave feminism was created. And if your a music head you've at least heard of Bikini Kill and know how they relate to this. Women who were part of this movement gave me the right to flash my body as much as I want, and use my body however I want and still be deserving of respect. Becuase I as a human bieng, just for existing deserve equal rights and respect. I thank my sisters everyday for working so hard so that I can have this right. I totally approve of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears using what god blessed them with to get where they need to. Because we earned it.

it was either as Caleb said, a satirical reaction to the behaviour of pop stars, pushed to the extreme (taking the step that every pop star alludes to but never follows through on). or. it was completely misguided idealism. acting like some chauvinistic **** doesn't create equality or command respect, it just makes you look like a butthole.

lol insanity has errupted!!!!
This is sort of pertinent, I was just talking to my girl about female singers earlier. Either you are a 'lesbo' or a 'pop star'. I haven't heard much from the ladies since janis joplin, with the occasional "school night" by ani difranco, which really sends me a message!

Ladies stop listening to pop music please!!!!!! For my sake :/



Oh and btw, if either of you know of any good acoustic female artists, i would be really interested to hear of them. I need some lady voice every once in awhile too!

My take on it: He was ragging on pop stars, glorified prostitutes if you will. When was the last time you saw a famous pop female artist singing with her pants on? Brittany and Lady Gaga are two prime examples.

The "we earned it part"-- just wow. I hope that's not what feminists were fighting for.

I am pretty sure the IDEA was fighting for equal rights, but anymore most women don't want equality. They want to be "higher" than men. They don't want to be treated fairly, they want to be treated better. I think it's the idea that because women were so "mistreated" before that they deserve, and I choke on this word, restitution. What a crock of ****e.

If I want to flash my tig old bitties for money, that's my business. But I certainly cannot get pissy because people look down on me for it. I couldn't care less what other people think of my moral standards. When I dress to go out for a night, I dress up my body to show it off best. I don't walk out with pasties for Christ's sake, but I do wear form-fitting clothes to show off the figure I was blessed with. When I am complimented on it, I say thank you. When women talk about me behind my back because they feel I should cover up more, I wink at them and continue dancing. When a man hits on me even after I've told him no thank you, I don't get pissed. I leave. If I didn't expect to get hit on, then I wouldn't dress to impress.

Sniping about what women are wearing and how we have the "right" to wear whatever we want because of our "sisters" back in the day is ridiculous. I have the right to educate myself as a woman but you don't see women boasting that right anymore. Just wear the clothes, or don't, and let's leave out women's rights for a reason for it. You wear sexy clothes (or lack thereof) because you want to. Not because women fought for that right. Don't make it a political statement. You belittle yourself that way, and then we all know you'll end up blaming the men for that belittling. Childish.
