However, the point i think you are missing is as soon as your flash your tits to help promote your "music" you LOSE all respect. Talent will earn you respect. If you would rather take a shortcut then fine, but don't expect any respect and that, my friend, has fuck all to do with feminism and equality, thats just common sense. If this is what you have taken from feminism then "your sisters" would most definitely want to slap some sense into you. |

I understand you Ms_Laliness....to a very limited degree. Sometimes its kind of a relief to be mindless -- to give in to what's easy and brainless and dirty. easy IS popular, and though I too consider myself rather 'alternative' i don't think relaxing into "pop" every once in a while makes me a hypocrite.
But the second you try and justify the degrading of woman's image with FEMINISM, you loose me. Respect has to be EARNED, it isn't given, and it can be lost. Respect is EARNED whether you are male, female, black, white, yellow, red, purple, green whatever. Feminism in its true sense (granted, i know very little about third wave "feminism") is a quest to equalize the genders, not to exempt women from the neccessity of acting respectably in order to gain respect. Go ahead, get practically naked on stage, wear ridiculous costumes and bathe in the limelight, but do it at the cost of legitimate respect, at least from me. As it has been mentioned, talent and hardwork will get you my respect. There is a difference between using what you have and exploiting yourself.

I am pretty sure the IDEA was fighting for equal rights, but anymore most women don't want equality. They want to be "higher" than men. They don't want to be treated fairly, they want to be treated better. I think it's the idea that because women were so "mistreated" before that they deserve, and I choke on this word, restitution. What a crock of ****e. If I want to flash my tig old bitties for money, that's my business. But I certainly cannot get pissy because people look down on me for it. I couldn't care less what other people think of my moral standards. When I dress to go out for a night, I dress up my body to show it off best. I don't walk out with pasties for Christ's sake, but I do wear form-fitting clothes to show off the figure I was blessed with. When I am complimented on it, I say thank you. When women talk about me behind my back because they feel I should cover up more, I wink at them and continue dancing. When a man hits on me even after I've told him no thank you, I don't get pissed. I leave. If I didn't expect to get hit on, then I wouldn't dress to impress. Sniping about what women are wearing and how we have the "right" to wear whatever we want because of our "sisters" back in the day is ridiculous. I have the right to educate myself as a woman but you don't see women boasting that right anymore. Just wear the clothes, or don't, and let's leave out women's rights for a reason for it. You wear sexy clothes (or lack thereof) because you want to. Not because women fought for that right. Don't make it a political statement. You belittle yourself that way, and then we all know you'll end up blaming the men for that belittling. Childish.
