I just want to say that Michael Jackson in the 80s was the equivalent of GOD

HIStory has some good moments on it, SOME being the key word here. Maybe 3-4 quality tracks on disc 2. Disc 1 doesn't count.

I also wish people would start giving Jackson some credit as a songwriter, granted a lot of his songs were written by other people. Some of his biggest hits were written solely by him. That includes
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough Billie Jean Beat It Wanna Be Startin' Something Bad Another Part of Me Smooth Criminal Dirty Diana Black or White Who Is It People need to remember that it wasn't ALL Jones and Temperton. |

I agree that his status was undeniably god like until the early nineties when the worm started to turn against him, as it tends to do with any megastar... the whole court case thing did him no favors either... his story actually has some pretty tragic elements to it....

Right. It kills me how just because Quincy and Temperton helped produce and maybe wrote one or two songs that people think ALL the credit is theres when in fact Michael wrote most of the songs and the songs he did wrote were the HITS. Michael wrote the entire BAD album on an exception of only 2 songs which were "Just Good Friends" and "Man in the Mirror". On every album Michael's writes over 100 songs and narrows it down. He does most of the writing. He just decides to incorperate other people in his projects. So its not like he does nothing himself lol which some arrogant music lovers love to agrue. |

If you actually read the discussion you'll see that most of this was said when the question of the individual merits of Jackson & Prince came up. And it was said for the most part that for the reason that Prince writes & produces virtually all his own stuff that was a plus point in his favour over Jackson. I don't recall anyone saying Jackson does nothing , just that he relies on a production team and certain songwriters to help him out. Something you've not disputed either, so how does it feel knowing you're agreeing with 'arrogant music fans'?

Yes, your right. His previous album Off the Wall was better. Still compared to these 2 albums everything after is commercial pop drivel. It's not even fair to use talk about them in the same sentence as Off the Wall and Thriller, so I won't.

IMO, Off The Wall and Thriller are 5 stars and Bad and Dangerous are 4. Not that much of a gap in quality. Disc 2 of HIStory is pretty blah. I have to agree with Urban on how mindnumbingly awful Earth Song is. I haven't heard Invincible but having heard the singles I intend to keep it that way. So I disagree with you strongly on Bad and Dangerous, they lack the R&B flavor but I think they were excellent pop albums. Sure Dangerous had the epic sh*tfest that was Heal the World, but the rest of the album is so damn good that it makes up for it... Well, almost. Jackson's true decline (musically that is) started with HIStory, what a bloated mess. |
