Why not just sit back and stop the debate? Everyone has made their point. No one can argue that OTW was not a huge album and commercial success. Let's just enjoy the music and stop debating.

What a great song.

Chula, I have to disagree with what you're saying. SF and I were having a pretty good debate over music. I haven't actually seen her jump out of line during the debate at all.

Fair enough. I wasn't talking about music in general, just her comments about OTW somehow being overlooked.

Sometimes when forming an opinion, I do agree that it is always good to express it more in depth, honestly I'll listen to someones recommendation if they go more in depth with why they recommend it over someone who says something like "this album is good." I do see where you're coming from, and understand that i'm just debating for debate sake. I just don't really see a difference in traits with general music listeners and music enthusiasts, but again, I do see why you would come to the conclusion that there is a line between the two. Personally, I see them as one thing described as "someone who listens to music," that's all it really needs to be anyway.

I am enjoying your responses though, for once you do seem to be understanding the rules of debate, and it makes it so much easier to talk with you.

Yes the bolded is true but as I mentioned earlier you also engage in other behaviors that a general music listener would not such as attending music message boards or sites and researching information about music. You want to learn more about other styles and you openly express in depth opinions that an average general listener would not. Also, I think there are different types of listeners. I don't think the "only" styles are general and enthusiastic but just stating the differences between the two since you asked me.

Ah. I must've missed her comments on that. I saw her comment on music enthusiasts vs general music listeners and it just went from there.

Actually, that is a good point. I don't see a lot of people who just listen to music casually go to the internet to find forums to discuss music on. If they do, they're some of the more inactive users on that forum. Not speaking about this one specifically, but forums in general have inactive users that would fit the trait that you describe.

 I have all of Michael's albums, concerts, videos, etc so trust me I sit back and enjoy his music daily.

Yes this is a great song. Michael was a great songwriter and that is something about him that is also overlooked. Michael wrote this song ALL BY HIS SELF

But it's not overlooked. After The Beatles he'd widely considered the greatest artist of all time.

And I agree.

I think he is widely considered the greatest entertainer and he hardly ever gets credit as a songwriter, I still disagree.

There are some that don't even know he has written 90% of his discography by his self.

"Thriller". One of those albums I'd want with me if I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one album. "Billie Jean" still astounds.

TomBradley 12-20-2016 04:11 AM

Thriller Album was my all time favorite!!!

If Michael only danced I'd like him 100% more. His voice and singing style annoy me.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-20-2016 09:40 AM

he has some great tracks and i like him a fair bit but he seemed to struggle with making a consistently good project. there would always be a few throw-aways on every release.

oh and obligatory prince > mj comment

Key 12-20-2016 11:18 AM

Never really could get into his music minus the hits but I respect him a lot for what he was.

Yeah, I agree - if you pick the best of all his work, it's incredible but each album alone was not without fillers.
