I'm going.

I just joined this forum today and didn't think my first post would be about MJ. But as someone who has tickets to his show this summer, I thought would share my thoughts.

My favorite MJ song is Man in the Mirror. I love the melody, the lyrics (reminds me of Ghandi's famous quote) and it was watching his performance of this song at the Grammy's that changed how I feel about music. I often hear people criticize his vocal ability, which I find odd because I personally love his identifiable voice and signature sounds (hiccups and all). I think that MJ was very creative with both his voice and dance moves (at least for his time).

I don't think it's really all that expensive considering it's MJ. Tickets to see Leonard Cohen in Montreal costed about the same and I definitely think that I will get money's worth of entertainment at the MJ concert. But why pay to see him at all? Well, yes, it is a once in lifetime chance. It's a chance to see legendary showmanship. I really don't know how well he will perform, if he'll dance like he use to, or be able sing w/o using playback, but he's *only* 50 and has had a long time to rest, so I'll give him the benefit of doubt. At this point, I don't think he would commit to something he can't deliver. He should know that giving bad shows will only worsen his already shattered image.

And the truth is, I don't think there's anything he can do to win back the support of the general public. Even if he releases a great album this year and rocks his shows in London, people will still continue to tear him apart and make ridiculous accusations. PETA issued a statement yesterday slaming MJ based on a rumor that he's going to be using animals for his show. I mean.... come on. Someone made a comment about him adopting a kid, just proof that tabloids are effective in spreading lies.

Many of his song are my favorites but since he never release new album for a very long time, I wonder whether he could sing as good as before

He'll make a lot of money with his London shows but it wont pay off his debt. There is however a good chance he will do shows elsewhere now the tickets for these shows have gone so quickly.

If he doesnt, he'll need more money from somewhere. Maybe its about time to consider the money he's sitting on with the share of The Beatles back catalogue?

I honestly think the use by date has truly come and gone... he should just downsized his expenses and retire... know when to hang it up... the comebacdk aintv going to fly and its just going to drain his pockets even further.

How would his comeback have a negative effect on his finances? Theres actually a very real possibility that the only reason he is doing it is because he needs the money.

He would probably lose money on a promotion vs. actual sales basis...

The comeback is happening mate. Well, obviously the gigs havent actually taken place yet so I suppose its a possibility it still wont happen but the people have coughed up the money and all the seats have been sold, all 850,000 (roughly) of them.

Also -> Michael Jackson's 50 Shows Sell Out In Hours

Maybe I should read posts, mate. Selling out seats, however, does not maketh a comeback. There's a whole lot more needed... for one the guy needs to show and quit blabbering about his health. Then what about actual material that people other tghan hardcore fans care about... then maybe your approaching the edges of small time come back....

Hmm I didnt realise his record sales have shot up too, although I should have expected it. Thriller up by 80% and his 'King of Pop' compilation sales increasing four fold? On top of what he will make from the tickets (I'm sure I read somewhere that he's meant to pocket 40% of each ticket but that may not be accurate) and merchandise he should make a crapload of money!

Hmm I'm sorry but I guess I just dont see your point. He isnt blabbering about his health anymore, it was only a few weeks ago before the tickets went on sale that he said he finally felt able to do a comeback. Thats why he hasnt done it all these years but he's gone on record as saying he feels up to it now. Even if he was still blabbering about his health it wouldnt directly affect ticket sales aslong as they were there to be bought.

He needs to show, of course but thats a given.

And the material he will play for this comeback? Thats irrelevant too. The seats are sold. They've gone. All fifty nights residence at the O2 have been sold, the money is in his pocket, he can play whatever he wants and even be totally rubbish because the money's in his pocket.

Well, he's not really attempting a comeback, so why are you going on about that? Earlier in the thread, it's clear that the point of this "comeback" is actually to say farewell to his fans.

I don't agree. 50 shows sold out in a few hours. They were selling like 40 000 tickets an hour. That obviously means he's gonna make money.
