Second part of the review:

HEARING THE ALBUM # XSCAPE IN BRAZIL - PART 2 |
Preliminary analysis of music (later back with more details):
1. LOVE NEVER FELT SO GOOD
The song starts with a very instrumental crafted strings (as is done in "Gone Too Soon", for example) and then follow a jazz / soulful vibe along with piano. Sounds like a reinterpretation of the best of the album "Off The Wall".

2. CHICAGO
"Chicago" has a very strong beat and organic, blending bass, bass drums and synthesizers. In addition, several ad-libs are simply great!

3. LOVING YOU
"Loving you ... that's all I" / The song is a kind of musical instruments convention, including piano, all played simultaneously and reminiscent Broadway musicals. Another brand is up there in the chorus catchy!

4. A PLACE WITH NO NAME
APWNN The new version is introduced by a hit very similar to "The Way You Make Me Feel". Moreover, one can notice the most prominent in the Michael voice, especially in the chorus, as distinct from that leaked version years ago.

5. SLAVE TO THE RHYTHM
"Slave" begins with sounds of chains dragging as slaves being loaded. The new version includes ad-libs Timbaland and has several sections that are so prominent that MJ's voice, sounding almost a cappella.

6. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE
has an electronic rhythm that recalls the sound of video games. The pace of the chorus is growing and instrumental sound is completed by a clock in the background, which oscillates at various times and descompassa.
DYKWYCA have a surprise! Near the end, the song seems to end up [at that moment everyone in the room were excited and prepared to applaud], when suddenly the last verse is repeated.

7. GANGSTA BLUE
is the most mysterious song on the album! The first few seconds creates an incredible tension, with rain sounds, steps and a heavy atmosphere ... until Michael comes by surprise by singing a cappella.

8. XSCAPE
"Xscape" starts with MJ saying "Darkchild" (producer Rodney Jerkins nickname). The new instrument is quite heavy and reminds of early demo version / original (including parts of beatbox). Moreover, before the chorus is an excerpt from a cappella.
Another important point is that, at various times, the song seems to reference the version of "Working Day And Night" sung live on the Dangerous Tour (to the extent that MJ is spinning on stage).

^MJ Beats Brasil translated.

*The 1st single is Love Never Felt So Good and will be officially released on May 5th* As I previously mentioned, there will be a song from the new album possibly Love Never Felt So Good played on the iHeartRadio Award Show on May 1.

Soulflower 05-02-2014 05:23 AM

^^^^That is not the official single. That is the bonus track that features JT and THANK GOODNESS because I can't stand JT's non singing self.

This is the original single version that ONLY features Michael's voice.

Hey guys here are some more snippets and even full versions of some of the songs that are going to be on "Xscape".

As a long time MJ fan, I am actually disappointed with some of the re-versions. Some of the re- versions are awful and the production is over-produced. Luckily, the untouched demo's are also going to be on the album as well.

I personally think Loving You and Love Never Felt So Good has the best re-versions but the other productions I can do without. I think they are the best because they stay true to the essence of MJ and remind of me classic Off The Wall MJ.

I am also disappointed with the people that worked on this project i.e. Timberland, Justin Timberlake, etc. They could have gotten producers like Pharrell, WillIAM who actually set in the studio and worked with MJ not random people who did not. Timberland did an AWFUL job with some of these re-visions.

Here are some demo's of the other songs that are already on You Tube.

A Place With No Name- I actually love the demo better than the re-version of the song. Here is the demo that is just looped.

Did I say I LOVE the demo better?

Slave to the Rhythm is on youtube but Justin Bieber's unauthorized version/feature :bonkhead: is the only one I can find. They use to have the one with just MJ's vocals version. If or when I can find one with just MJ I will post.

BBMAs HOME

On what already promises to be one of the year’s stand-out music events, the 2014 BBMAs raise the bar even higher with a world premiere experience featuring the late King of Pop.

The Estate of Michael Jackson created the spot, which will present the superstar “like you’ve never seen him before.”

It’s sure to be a thriller, but the finer details remains under lock-and-key.

This year's ceremony will be held Sunday, May 18 in Las Vegas. ABC will broadcast the show live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena and Yahoo will be streaming the red carpet show.

Performers on the night include Miley Cyrus, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, 5 Seconds of Summer, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Derulo, Imagine Dragons, Luke Bryan, John Legend, OneRepublic, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood. Presenters for the event include Jordin Sparks, Kelly Rowland, Pete Wentz and Wiz Khalifa, among others.

Bringing Michael Jackson Back: The Inside Story of 'Xscape' (Cover Story)

The BBMAs provide a high-profile launch pad for MJ’s posthumous album “Xscape,” which comes out May 13.

“Xscape” is eight tracks of Jackson vocals set to new music from Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, John McClain, J-Roc and Timbaland who is executive producer of the album. The originals they worked with were recorded from 1983 to 1999.

The first single from the album, “Love Never Felt So Good,” produced by MJ, John McClain, Giorgio Tuinfort and Paul Anka, was released last week. A duet version of “Love Never Felt So Good,” with Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, produced by Timberlake, Timbaland and Jerome “J-Roc” Harmon, appeared soon after.

A second track, “Chicago,” hit the web earlier this week. “Chicago” is one of five tracks Timbaland oversaw on the album with his collaborator J-Roc.

************************************************** *****

I am actually not feeling this idea. Hopefully it is executed well. They did something similar for 2pac back in 2011 but this just doesn't seem right to me but we will see...

Dammit I miss MJ!

Michael Jackson is well on his way to claiming the Official Albums Chart Number 1 this weekend with his second posthumous release Xscape.

Back in March it was announced Epic Records had teamed up with the late Michael Jackson’s estate to compile an album of previously unheard tracks.

Xscape features ‘contemporised’ versions of the original track recordings and high-profile producers include Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, JRoc, Stargate and John McClain.

Michael Jackson has an impressive chart history scoring 30 Official Albums Chart Top 40s and nine Number 1s, to date. And, selling over 25,000 copies so far this week, Xscape looks on track to be the late King Of Pop’s 10th UK Number 1 album.

Michael Jackson's Originals Better Than Updates on 'Xscape'

There are high and low moments on Michael Jackson's second posthumous album, "Xscape," available Tuesday on Epic Recordings. The distinction is rooted in the difference between the contemporized and original versions of previously unreleased songs from the late iconic star.

The album includes eight modern versions of the songs, and the deluxe includes an additional nine original recordings. The catch: Most of the original versions are good as-is; there wasn't a need to give them a contemporary twist.

Considering Jackson is one of the most revered artists of all time and many of his fans are still mourning his 2009 death, his essence is best captured on the versions that revisit his old sounds. On "Love Never Felt So Good," "Loving You," and "A Place With No Name," Jackson feels more organic. The music is stripped down, and his sharp vocals find comfort with the tracks. During these moments, listeners are reminded of Jackson during "Off the Wall" or "Thriller" eras with songs that may not have made the final cut but are satisfactory.

All good, but let's move on to the "modernized" versions. Some of the contemporized takes on the songs are, simply, unsuccessful at capturing Jackson's majestic fluid sound. ("Love Never Felt So Good" featuring Justin Timberlake is one of the exceptions.) Dance track "Slave to the Rhythm" composed by Babyface, L.A. Reid, Daryl Simmons, and Kevin Roberson has an 1980s breakdancing, boogaloo groove that seems a mismatched fit for Jackson. The title track, helmed by Jackson, Rodney Jerkins, Fred Jerkins III, and LaShawn Daniels is another awkward composition, as the track — though good — heavily leans on a booty-shaking, twerk-ready hip-hop tempo, a complete departure for Jackson. "Chicago" feels like an attempt to recapture the energy of Jackson's "Liberian Girl," but it's not as infectious.

"Blue Gangsta" is a puzzling, theatrical song that would have been better suited for one of Jackson's shorts. The concept, possibly a reference to heartache, seems like an early draft of his song "Smooth Criminal."

For the introductory listen, those who desire to feel Jackson nostalgia should skip the first eight songs — i.e., the contemporized productions — and advance to the deluxe portion. It's worth hearing first the songs that better match Jackson's familiar style. The updated versions should be considered as bonus material and special mixes.

Vocal Reviews on Xscape Album

Quote:

The voice is still a thing of startling, electroshock beauty: spookily fluid, percussively explosive, pitched with both masculine and feminine qualities in a way that is exquisitely, soulfully human. Here it is, once again, gushing, snapping, gliding and self-harmonising over punchy 21st-century digital beats, such a lively, wondrous thing that it casts a spell from beyond the grave – at least as long as you don’t think too hard about what you are listening to.
Quote:

Yet all the producers are essentially respectful to Jackson himself, making sure his extraordinary vocals are the most forward and focussed part of the experience, so that even where the results are less convincing they remain intriguing and exciting.

News: "Michael: The Last Photo Shoots"

CANNES, France (AP) — A documentary chronicling Michael Jackson in his last years has been acquired at the Cannes Film Festival.

"Michael: The Last Photo Shoots" follows the late superstar as he prepared for his ill-fated comeback. It features interviews with the photographers as well as his stylists and friends.

Renowned photographer Bruce Weber photographed Jackson in 2007 for the re-release of "Thriller" on its 25th anniversary, and celebrity photographer Matthew Rolston shot him the same year for Ebony magazine, his first U.S. magazine interview in years.

Lightning Entertainment has acquired the international sale rights. Its executive vice president, Ken Dubow, said in a statement Thursday that the documentary will provide fans with "a rare behind-the-scenes look into his life."

Jackson died shortly before his London comeback concerts in 2009. "Xscape," a second posthumous album, was released this week.

I disagree with this entire article like booo.

The only original version that is decent is Blue Gangsta. Everything else is better in the modernized version. Telling people to skip the best part of the album is really stupid.

LOL I agree it is good for an article like this to be objective.

I personally prefer most of the originals.

I do like 4 of the re worked songs though.

What did you think of album? You should comment in my Xscape thread!

This was very disappointing the hologram looked and moved NOTHING like MJ. I think we were bamboozled. It looked like an impersonator.

The choreography was good though.

I hope the Estate does not do a hologram tour. This was an interesting idea but this could have been executed better. This just makes me miss MJ more. It shows that MJ can not be duplicated and was unique

It was sweet how they saved MJ a seat at the show

Wish they could have treated him this good when he was alive

Bamboozled is very appropriate word to use. I just had bad vibes watching it. They are making him shuck and jive for money even in death.

Let him rest in peace. The **** was creepy as ****.
