Michael still owns the catalogue there is OTHER music included in the Sony ATV music catalogue besides the Beatles. Michael has alot of assets. What you are probably misunderstanding is his 1995 merging of Sony publishing with ATV music together by making them partner owner. He sold some of it to Japenese corporation Sony for 90 million dollars in 95 and it became the 2nd biggest music publishing company


Just to be clear Michael purchased ATV music/ Beatles Catalogue back in 1985.

The Japanese Sony sought to start a core business of diversity into music, films and games. Looking for further opportunities, the company aimed to expand its music publishing interests and looked towards Michael. The Japanese corporation offered Jackson $90 million for 50% of ATV Music in 1995. In that 50% The Beatles music as well as other artists and other things was included in that portion. Michael generated a cash cow of money with this catalogue and will continue in the future. Michaels portion of the catalogue is set to be worth between 450 -600 million dollars. The entire catalogue is set to be worth 1 billion to 4 billion dollars.

Michaels other publishing firm, Mijac, which publishes songs written by Michael himself and which is administered by competitor Warner/Chappell Music, is valued to be worth at least 400 million and is probably worth a whole lot more now since his passing.

Jackson didnt buy the Beatles copyrights because he thought it was a good investament, but simply because he could, and he wanted it no matter what it cost. (Simply just because he did). MJ was notoriously known to spend money wildly and without thought.

I read somewhere that McCartney had advised him to invest in music publishing, and he was then dismayed when Jackson outbid him for the publishing rights to songs of The Beatles. Of course that might not be true, but then again it might be.

Mcartney was exactly the first person to discuss publishing rights with Michael and educated him on it. In that conversation he told him he was going to buy his music. Michael thought it would be a good investment

Jackson is a real superstar. His song and dance is really great. I love jackson's music. He performed really well, so people cannot forget him.
