Default Who's on your music charts?

What music is popular in your country at the moment? What's hitting the music charts?

I'm interested in both the albums and singles charts.

In Australia (ARIA charts) the top ten albums are by Michael Jackson, Mark Vincent, Sarah Blasko, Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus, Rob Thomas, and Pink.

I expect that Michael Jackson is popular in a lot of other places as well, he appears 13 times in the Top 50.

I don't usually listen to charts or have any idea what is going on in them but over here Sarah Blasko is in the top album charts? This makes me happy

Yeah it's surprising sometimes what pops up on the charts. Sarah Blasko and The Dead Weather are all in the Top 50, so good stuff does appear from time to time. Of course there is a lot of rubbish (see: Miley Cyrus) but after all they are the pop charts and that means it's a sample of all different audiences to see what comes out on top. Evidently a fair chunk of music sales are from young girls. I find it really interesting to see what's popular, the tastes of the public really do change over time and the charts are a great place to see it. A couple of years ago there'd be no chance of an electro-pop group like La Roux of gaining a place but here they are at no. 26. Same goes for Kings of Leon, who'd have thought when they first released Youth and Young Manhood that they'd be so successful in the mainstream.
