I always thought John Cale tried to push them in a punky direction, which is a style that they weren't suited to.

"Take Me I'm Yours" was a hit single in the UK but the album didn't chart, they made their breakthrough on Cool for Cats.

This is reminding me to dig out my old VHS of their videos that was compiled in the Late 80's. Bringing back the memories!

To me, New Wave includes a balance of guitar and keyboards. Therefore, early Depeche Mode and REM - not New Wave. The Cars did New Wave best, if you ask me. Early INXS, at least the stuff after 1980, was done well (and INXS deserves special credit for outlasting their peers on the charts). Good to hear Missing Persons mentioned. One of the better New Wave bands - probably never made a lousy-sounding single. It's too bad Dale Bozzio's image probably taints the band's musical reputation.

The Cure - Let's Go To Bed

New Wave do an important comeback in continental Europe since few months. A lot of interesting bands are emerging. I posted a message about some of them here.

Good song but I wouldn't consider the Cure to be very new-wave.
