Guy Sebastian

Hey everybody,
Im new here and I love music.
Has anyone here heard of Guy Sebastian? He was the first winner of
Australian Idol back in 2003 but he has come in leaps and bounds since
then and is about to release his first album in the US :band:

I really dislike his music, although I did watch some of that Idol season and he seemed like a nice guy.

FireInCairo 01-27-2009 01:08 AM

He is positively awful

Guy Sebastian The New Yorkers Love Him :-)

I am a fan, he was interviewed last week on New York Radio and also did a live performance and they absolutely loved him, he has got a lot of American New Fans because of it. :o:

I would not know a Guy Sebastian song if I heard it but I did read an interesting item on his Idol win. It was claimed that he won it with the vote of various Christian fundamentalist churches through the Hillsong organisation. Hillsong is a happy clappy style organisation and apparently urged it's members to vote for him and so they did in droves. Or is that flocks, sheep that they are:rolleyes:.

varicool 01-28-2009 05:57 PM

That is rubbish 4ZZZ he wasnt a member of Hillsong,I am not Christian neither are a lot of his fans.Looks like he is going to be a Big Star in the USA good on him.

FireInCairo 01-28-2009 06:01 PM

No, I read a fair bit about that too.
Looked fairly sus.

varicool 01-28-2009 06:06 PM

Do people really believe today tonight and a current affair lol, I voted a lot and I do not go to Church lol as did a lot of my friends :-) Personally I think his success has proved he was a worthy winner, he is going strong 5 Years later and is now about to break the USA Market, John Mayer said he is an extraordinary talent :-)

FireInCairo 01-28-2009 06:07 PM

That in itself is sad

varicool 01-28-2009 06:09 PM

What is sad? I do not understand? If everyone liked the same music it would be a dull world wouldnt it?

FireInCairo 01-28-2009 06:12 PM

OK I'll admit I'm bored and trolling, but forgive me, its freakin' 44 degrees here and I don't like the heat.

You make a good point but it doesn't stretch to mass produced corporate garbage like Guy Sebastian. Idol is designed to make a quick buck for the record label, nothing more.

varicool 01-28-2009 06:15 PM

Thats your opinion which you are intitled to but do they have to wear the Idol Tag for their whole career other Artists have got their breaks on radio contests etc but they do not wear a tag. He most certainly is not garbage, I am glad the Americans are embrassing him as I knew they would :-) The heat stinks I feel for you Melbournites.

4ZZZ 01-29-2009 03:25 AM

varicool. You can like who you like and I will defend your right to like who you like until my last days. If you like Guy's music thats fine by me and you are right it would indeed be a sad world if we all liked the same thing. I am not able to comment as to his music. You tell me what he is like, I don't know.

I can only repeat what I have read and that is not from via TV shows like Today Tonight. I am not prone to watch commercial TV and certainly not light entertainment like Today Tonight and nor Australian Idol for that matter.
I have read a summation of the block voting among Christian churches in several publications and blogs and these discussions can be googled if you so wish.
The fact that generic pop singers apparently win these contests and the fact that some are constantly linked with various Evangelical Christian groups with links to Hillsong make me suspicious of the motives.

P.S Guy is from Paradise Church in Adelaide. Same thing as Hillsong in my extremely cynical mind.

Youtube

- Lionel Richie live at Acer Arena Sydney 2011 - All Night Long (with Guy Sebastian)

Six studio albums
five #1 singles

Sang for Oprah, who requested he perform at the private send off party for her guests, she stayed for hours
Wanted him on the show but they couldn't fix schedules

Performed with Black Eyed Peas in LA, at Peapod Benefit, where he had the preGrammy guests so still they could have heard a pin drop, so we were advised after (NOT by a member etc)

Questlove spotted him and asked him to perform the following night with The Roots band at the The Roots Jam Session Pre-Grammy's.

He then went to Washington Embassy and performed there

flew back to LA and performed for Barry Gibb (did a special for him and the Bee Gees songs) and G-Day USA

flew back the next day with the Today team and
YouTube - Guy Sebastian on TODAY Show on Australia Day 2011

then performed as the headline act for AusSounds - for instance
Guy Sebastian "Dynamite / DJ Falling in Love Again

-----------
And as for the rest - its a known fact that there's one anti-Guy fan who has posted continual anti / hate stuff since 2004 under at the VERY least five IDs.

Interestingly, on the site we first became aware he was 'one person' he hasn't been back since December 2010 - and nor has all the other IDs we knew he was.
