Lady Gaga doesnt have all the boyfriend issues like Madonna did, then it may just be a question of time, but she also doesnt have very groundbreaking music. Madonna headlined because it was different - it was sexy - Gagas music is pop and fun, but definitely doesnt change the way people look at todays music. Its her music videos that show her simillarities to Madonna, but apart from that, little else.

I agree that they have little in common musically, but in re their impact; Madonna's first two albums were little more than poppy fun imo...it wasn't until True Blue and Like A Prayer that people began taking her a bit more seriously.
Some updates on Lady G.

Pals of pop star Lady Gaga are said to be concerned by her recent public behaviour and “fear that she’s heading for a meltdown” following her split from her boyfriend and creative director, Matthew Williams, according to reports.
“Gaga is losing the plot,” Closer quotes a friend of the Paparazzi singer saying.
“She’s drinking most days, plus attention seeking even more than usual. Everyone’s fearing a full-scale meltdown.”
Friends claim that Williams asked Gaga to marry him, however: “She was devastated, but says that because she has to cope with the likelihood of dying young, she has to follow her dreams.”
The 24-year-old recently tested “borderline positive” for the autoimmune disease lupus.
“They’re still friends because they work together,” the source is quoted as saying.
“It’s a very tough time for both of them.”
