As someone who's spun top 40 at a college bar, and isn't a big fan of today's pop music, Lady Gaga is one of the only modern pop artists I respect.

First off, with all the turnover you see on the charts these days, the fact that this thread started a year and a half ago speaks for itself. She's basically had a single or two in the top 10 pretty much continuously for almost two years now. That kind of sustained dominance off 1.5 albums (The Fame and The Fame Monster) is rare; it kind of feels like MJ and Thriller in the early to mid 80s.

Also, while Lady Gaga does use autotune, she gets some really good beats, and she can sing. I was sort of skeptical of her talent, but then I saw her do Paparazzi on the MTV Music Awards, and that was impressive. She could probably do Broadway if she wanted. Can't say that about Ke$ha and a lot of the other pop artists out there.

Anyway, I feel like the whole mainstream pop-electronic trend that's going on right now in the US really started with her. And as a dj, I appreciate what she's done, because I've been able to play 2 or 3 of her singles every night and I know I'll get a good response from people. As we know, today's young music fans have ADD, and the fact she's been able to keep their attention this long says something.
