Anyway when I worked at a library, the CD area was split into Pop, Jazz/Blues, Country, Showtunes, Classical, World... and I think that's it. So Britney Spears, Led Zep, ABBA, Cascada, Usher, 50 cent, etc would all be pop. Haha, it's the easiest way for them to classify the music I guess since it's so varied.
Well, music today is separated into their own genres a little differently then they were maybe 10 years ago.

Only because we have the technology to keep track of them now.

Apparently Lady Gaga considers Led Zeppelin pop.
Led Zeppelin is kind of pop-like, it's like blues/hard rock/pop. Pop, for me, is anything that has hooks in it. So like Disco and Jazz Funk would be cousins of pop. It's usually pretty accessible, but doesn't have to be. There could be pop that isn't- I mean The Unicorns are like artsy pop and I know a few Lady Ga Ga fans who don't like them.

All and all, for me pop has redeemed it's name. From catchy, mindless, and fun to easy listening and layered, to catchy and really good, to only has a little pop in it at all but you can see it there... it's not all crap. And I like a few Lady Ga Ga songs, it's just when she tries to be more then mindless pop music do her songs suck.

I seen you as more of a King Billy, he allegedly slept with a horse. Even though you're a bird.
