Yeah I know right! I enjoyed the song lots as well. Putting aside my slight infatuation with Amanda Palmer, I think she brings up a lot of valid points about pop music and art.

lol

what differentiates good or bad art for me is the sense of self-expression. for example i see tags on walls and trains and it's ****. no emotion put into it at all, and it's meant for others to simply see rather than evoke anything from the artist or audience. then there's street graffiti worth millions for good reason; it displays technical skill as well as free expression that can be interpreted with a broad range of emotion and perception. imo bad art is cliché; it tells you what you already know. lady gaga's music and lyrics don't do anything new for me, it just sounds catchy. there are a gazillion other songs that are catchy. big whoop.

Why do people think it odd that I like Lady Gaga? Or that I like pop in general? I make a point of telling people when they ask me what kind of music I like to say "Pop." and then they look at me like "Oh...(guess he's not a real music fan)". That look is bloody priceless.

see if I said pop it's more like "oh yeah I listen to that too!" but if I say electronica it's more like "oh, so like can you rave? do you always use glowsticks and wear burberry?" yeah thats what I do. I don't even know what "raving" is. :|

Exactly. The same thing happens to me and it annoys me. If somebody wants to use their talents to make pop music, what's the problem? Yes, there is a lot of shitty pop music out there... but the same goes for every genre. And to me Lada Gaga is not just a pop icon but a talented performer. If somebody talented wants to make pop music, why should we obsess over it when there is so much other crap wrong? I don't think the line should be drawn on what is and isn't art. I'm sure Andy Warhol would have a lot to say on this topic.

Yeah, that's how it is for me, but I don't really listen to pop as much as I do other music.
It's kind of the point of my other thread.
Honestly, it's not worth telling people if they're not going to listen to you.

Cause what does the word "Pop" really mean ? Like what kind of info does it give us about the song ? Is it really a specific genre ?

Yep. Simplistic, youth oriented, catchy, often shallow but at times decievingly deep.
