I don't think she knows what she wants to be portraying or conveying.

Her shows and her videos are all a bunch of "odd" and "weird" imagery that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. Take the Marry the Night video. Why a hospital? Why be speaking French? Why drape yourself in Cheerios and have a mental breakdown?

What does that have to do with the song, which in all fairness has a decent message about resilience.

I think she's lost her way. Whereas she may have at one point been about the music, she's more about fame and attention, and it's a little uncomfortable to watch given how uncomfortable with herself she is.

Even her name is borrowed from a Queen song.

I guess I just don't get what she's trying to accomplish.

maybe her "vision" is that she's "weird"?

Björk is weird. Lykke Li is weird.

Lady GaGa pretends to be weird. There's no meaning between anything she does. Musical styrofoam.

Just an observation - a lot of her image brings me back to Terry Bozzio of Missing Persons, a band with a a lot of musical ability that was Pop for the MTV era with Bozzio being the strong "Weird" New Wave visual selling point. It's understandably easy to connect as Gaga is talented well beyond the Pop Scene she's in but knowing that she has to create an event to keep in the spotlight (once Missing Persons turned into more less visual band after 1983, they faltered big time with less exciting music in my opinion. Their first album's sound and style were a good fit). It's the game played from time to time in music when a musician feels like playing the "Weird Visual" card to attract the masses. Nothing wrong with that, I also have to add.

Not a condemnation, but something to think about as a continuation of a Pop Strategy that's tough to play right and keep at a star level for a long time.

Dale used to make her own weird outfits, too. Haha. With power tools.

Interesting analogy, but 1) (as noted by Duraddict) you mean Dale Bozzio (Terry was the male drummer) and 2) Lady Gaga is uglier and far more talented than Dale. I saw Missing Persons a few years ago (with Dale as the sole original member). Her singing is okay, she doesn't appear to play any instruments, and anyone can tell the band's lyrics were always mediocre. Lastly, age has caught up with Dale, so that part of the appeal is gone. In a way, Lady Gaga walks a narrower line as far re pop success, due to the lack of beauty.
