You could just play their CDs while watching an episode of Power Rangers on mute, and you'd get about the same experience.

First time I've been sigged. Hopefully one step closer to being part of the Music Banter family.

Actually, Gaga's appeal is far more than just aesthetic. If you read the links I posted, you'll see that there's far more than just boldness and innovation in Gaga's imagery. She's extremely subversive in subtle and not so subtle ways and is doing a good job of eradicating and perverting the male gaze for her own subversive and confusing purposes. She wants the viewer to question her gender (or transgender; with Gaga, nothing is ever as it seems), and she's far more in control of her own image and how she uses it than all other women pop entertainers before her.

But isn't all that summed up in the visual aesthetics rather than the music?

Yes, and we sit and analyze the artistic value of her imagery because she went to art school. A band like GWAR throws together random goofy sexual, and violent imagery, and we consider them a joke. Simply because they don't reference to how much they love David Bowie, and Andy Warhol we don't consider them artists.

I'm not buying it. Lady Gaga is a con artist of the highest caliber.

He's saying it's also a big part of the lyrics, I believe. I'm just spectating here, though.

I would say it's a big part of the compensation. However, I'd like to point out the imagery is brilliant sometimes. Her lyrics are just basically cheap innuendo, and not particularly clever innuendo at that. Then again Lady Gaga tends to rely on the illusion of irony by intentionally not being clever often.

GWAR? Are you fucking kidding me? The band that writes songs about daterape and golden showers?
Have you ever heard a Lady Gaga song?
