I believe her songs to be just normal pop songs that wouldn't have nearly as much impact in the mainstream if they weren't overshadowed by Lady Gaga's "wacky and rebellious" persona that she built for herself. As far as I can see it being fake just look at her before she became Gaga at around 2006-2007. She looks like any normal person and Def Jam knew this which is why they dropped her after three months when she used her real name.

Depends on the severity of your transgression.
If musicians want to make a gimmick then it must be reflective of the qualities of the music instead of trying to hide them. For example, I have no problem with black metal bands and their gimmicks since it is reflective of the subject matter of their music. |

I dismissed her previous album because I didn't and still don't like Pokerface, but I think Bad romance, Alejandro and especially Telephone are great songs and huge earworms. What she's done with the videos and the accompanying visual image took it to a whole different level and made her, quite deservedly, a pop icon and a phenomenon of mainstream music (seriously, who nowadays makes 10 minute videos?). 3 songs don't make a great album though...
Still, this: is just spectacular. But then it was tailor made for gay people...

I hated Alejandro. I haven't seen it more than the day of the premiere and maybe it would have grown on me after than but I didn't think it was a good video at all. |

HAHAHAHA!
I have mixed feelings about GaGa, but I have to say that her music speaks for itself. Her latest album was much finer in quality compared to the recent efforts of Katy Perry and other contempory pop stars. Point in fact, pop stars this decade have been decidedly dreary and decadent with few exceptions, and GaGa is one of them. Monster and Teeth are some of the best pop productions I've heard in the last few years. Those who are deviating from what matters here - the music - are forgetting why they joined this forum in the first place. This is Muiscbanter, not a personality forum, or a fashion centre...GaGa's music should be the ultimate basis of judgement and nothing else. So many people here make the grandiose claim that image and music shouldn't intermingle, shouldn't be a basis for marketing etc., yet so many of you use it as a template for judgement. |
