I listed quite a few reasons. Granted, I was being rather exaggerated in my verbiage. But I dislike her for the reasons listed. Mainly that we live in a society that sees success as monetary and she has taken the position of power she is in because of her ability to write catchy songs (the lyrics of which, indeed, sound like she really couldn't give a ****) and she has used this position of power to make it even MORE popular to be grossly materialistic. It's not her music i dislike... it's her image and the effect it has.
And in what way exactly does my opinion stem from ignorance? Unless you mean ignorance of the entirety of her material which, I admit happily, I am ignorant of, because after watching her videos I decided not to poison myself with the backwards values she makes oh-so-swallowable by producing, I admit, extremely catchy songs. |

To clarify:
I do not dislike her music, since I do not listen to it enough to form an opinion. I do not dislike her as a person because I do not know her. I just think that it is irresponsible to spoon feed backwards ideals to millions of open-mouthed, impressionable people. |

Watch her interviews. Gaga preaches acceptance and love (and albeit materialism as well.) She was an outcast in high school and she now wants to be the person that all the "weird people" can call their friend, even if only in heart. If she genuinely means that or is just saying that for publicity, I don't know. I'd like to think she means it out of the goodness of her heart. And besides, I know several people who Gaga has affected in a positive manner. There was also a big video made of people thanking Gaga for giving them the courage to have confidence in themselves, and some of the people talked about how they came out to their parents/friends, or how she helped them stop feeling so alone, etc. I think it was done on her birthday. Also, Gaga has been a part of several charity campaigns, including one with Verizon where she matched people's donations to help gay/bisexual youth who are kicked out of their homes by their parents. She's also a part of the VivaGlam Mac campaign, which encourages their customers to always use protection when having sex. All the proceeds of the lipsticks from the campaign go to AIDS research. And finally, although it's already been mentioned here, Gaga is an adamant supporter of gay rights and has strongly voiced her opinions on the matter in various interviews / events. I'll give you that a good amount (if not most) of her music lacks substance, but there is more to her than the music. As for her clothes, I agree. I wish she'd tone it down. |

That's all well and good, but in the essence of despising her because of the imagery she portrays to be "materialistic", I must ask, in what way does she do this? As you stated it seems to be the content of her videos that peeve you the most, and I'm guessing the cost. The thing is though, there's much worse out there that would leave stale taste in anyone's mouth and subject an adverse impression on the ""impressionable". Basically what I'm saying is this, this hate seems a bit much for someone who has a faint glimmer of light in a pop world of complete and utter rubbish.

And I think shes gone a bit down hill lately. The song Monster is terrible and I'm a bit annoyed with her videos. They used to be fun and quirky and now theyre just (as someone said before) overelaborated and its like shes trying to stick too much into the space of 4 minutes. People dont want a reanactment of gangrape (or whatever the Alejandro video was) they just want a fun music video for a cool song. |

Quite frankly i find your way of thinking tiring as i have heard it too many times now but there is more to music than the charts, of course there is. Not every artist out there is out to make money but also not every artist out there is writing music that is ever going to offer such an appeal to a wide range of people in the general public to ever make any money or get any recognition anyway. Pop music is all about popular music, the music that does have this appeal, the music that fills the top 40/top 100 charts all over the world, the music that shifts the most merchandise and the music that makes the most money but why hate on Gaga for this? Why not hate the thousands of pop stars just like her that came before her, made a lot of money and became idolised by impressionable teenagers all over the world before her? If you're gonna hate on anything, hate a band for ditching their ethics to make some money (although i still couldn't give a toss about this either) instead of hating on a pop star for writing pop songs and making money. |

I definitely dig GaGa. She's excellent at what she does and she puts on one HELL of a live show, probably one of the best I've ever attended. Also I have bags of respect to her, she seems to have managed to stay grounded despite the amount of fame and recognition she's received over the past year or so. The fame hasn't gone to her head and I reckon she's exactly the same as she was before she rocketed, which is awesome.
