Just because she does pop music doesnt mean she sounds like the other women in the genre.

No, but without the music videos and the image, it would be hard to identify her as anything "different" from the norm of female pop singers. Her music is similiar to Beyonce, Katy Perry and Rihanna, as the trends have turned music more dancish with techno beats. Sweet Dreams, Rude Boy, California Gurlz. Lady Gaga could have sung any of those songs.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a big Lady Gaga fan. I even went to her concert a couple of months ago. But I dont deny that her music is generically pop.

Is it me or is the whole non-conforming style getting boring? I really don't think she could wear anything else/do a lot else that would surprise me. Music aside, her whole persona seems to have lost its novelty a little bit and without that, is she not just another generic pop puppet? What's she going to do when people do get bored/tired/sick of the 'look at me, I'm wearing barely any clothes and a lobster on my head' character? She kind of reminds me a bit of those people who have to shout "I'm mental, me!" after they've done something totally unfunny and stupid to attract attention. I know she's got genuine music fans, and it might just be cos I'm looking at her without bias (I honestly just have indifference towards her), but is she anything that different if you took away her attention whoring?

Absolutely. I think certain folks are drawn toward the outfits because they enjoy the flair. I, for one, would prefer not to go back to the Nirvana fashion scene.

Still, costumes or not, I think her music is pretty great. You don't think she makes good music?

I don't think she makes bad music... But I wouldn't say it's groundbreaking stuff. I think I've said earlier in the thread somewhere that I put a couple of her songs to a piano and played around with them a little, after which my respect for her as a vocalist and musician did go up somewhat. I'm not really sure her music alone is enough to put her far above other pop artists though, hence why it seems she needs the charade to go with it.

EDIT: And Lady Gaga aside, jeans, big checkered shirts and Converse or Docs will always be the comfiest outfit I own! There's a lot to be said for the practicality of the Nirvana fashion scene

The endless pursuit of groundbreaking bores me. I don't know what pop artists we'd put on her level.

I think, as far as pop acts go, there are only a few close and it would be something like Maroon 5, Beyonce, and...I'm sure I'm forgetting someone.

To me, not being a massive pop fan, I'd put her (musically) on the same set as Beyonce, Ke$ha, Katy Perry etc - listening to a local radio station all day that plays barely anything but pop, Lady Gaga's songs stand out no more to me than Beyonce or Rhianna. Maybe it is just because I'm indifferent to pop music? I very briefly worked in a music shop for a couple of months and we were given set playlists of new albums to play, one being Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' and I can genuinely say that it stood out to none of us as a great album. One of the better pop albums of that year, but nothing special.
