I think you're distorting the meaning of my posts. You do strike me as getting a bit defensive ..

It just seems to me that because Lady G is arguably the biggest pop star on the planet at the moment, people feel the need to counter-attack. She's one of the exceptions in pop - she's not manufactured, and she writes and co-produces all her own songs, and people don't seem to be able to accept this. Meh, why does it matter?
I personally could care less, I just really admire her as a performer, especially because of how she is with her fans. She does have a spectacular voice though, and if Again Again is her only song credit on the Fame, that's still a ****ing great song. |

Her performances are a bit hit and miss for me. I heard she's really nice to her fans though. |

@ Paloma:
Performer. Yes. But showing up to a baseball game in a studded bikini and looking like a trailer-park meth addict is performing nothing but a sad publicity stunt. I sense an Amy Winehouse style trajectory in the making. Not that I care, but I hope she at least keeps her stunts in the music venue where people actually pay to go see it instead of having to be exposed to it in daily life. |

Further than that, she can join Winehouse in St Lucia or wherever the hell she is now for all I care

I don't mean to discredit Gaga. She is a pianist and she writes all her sh*t which is a super rarity among pop divas. She should get a lyricist though, seriously. And I don't like her voice but she does have chops in the singing department.
I just don't think that she deserves to be called a genius. Regardless of how well crafted it is, in the end, it's still night club music. Goldfrapp is someone who for me does that kinda pop music way way way better. I mean that chick can play a theremin with her vagina. Now THAT is talent. I think that's a myth. Certain kinds of publicity really can ruin you. Like when Michael Richards started ranting about lynching black people, that obviously wasnt good publicity because he'll probably never get serious work again. |

I agree that it's a myth in cases of extreme bad publicity, but in this case, look at the discussion GaGa caused. Freelance said it even made the news, so that's pretty much free promotion. It might annoy some people, but it's not on the level of, say, Chris Brown giving Rihanna a vampiric kiss, which was fatalistic for his career.
