As someone who's spun top 40 at a college bar, and isn't a big fan of today's pop music, Lady Gaga is one of the only modern pop artists I respect.
First off, with all the turnover you see on the charts these days, the fact that this thread started a year and a half ago speaks for itself. She's basically had a single or two in the top 10 pretty much continuously for almost two years now. That kind of sustained dominance off 1.5 albums (The Fame and The Fame Monster) is rare; it kind of feels like MJ and Thriller in the early to mid 80s. Also, while Lady Gaga does use autotune, she gets some really good beats, and she can sing. I was sort of skeptical of her talent, but then I saw her do Paparazzi on the MTV Music Awards, and that was impressive. She could probably do Broadway if she wanted. Can't say that about Ke$ha and a lot of the other pop artists out there. Anyway, I feel like the whole mainstream pop-electronic trend that's going on right now in the US really started with her. And as a dj, I appreciate what she's done, because I've been able to play 2 or 3 of her singles every night and I know I'll get a good response from people. As we know, today's young music fans have ADD, and the fact she's been able to keep their attention this long says something. |

As a strong Glee basher, there's only been two episodes that I really, really loved, and that was one of them. Not neccasarily because of GaGa, I just thought it was the strongest episode emotionally that I've seen. But I digress because this is not the Glee thread (I sincerely hope there is not a Glee thread).

No, there isn't a Glee thread. If you piss me off, I'll start one. |

Wow, this is a very enthusiastic thread . I can't say that I share your love for her, but I understand the appeal. It's the same appeal Madonna and Cyndi Lauper had for me when I was a little girl. Some of the melodies and a crazy style are very reminiscent of those, but not enough to actually bring me to really listen to her music.
