I posted a lengthy write-up on my No. 1. (Madonna) at my blog. I tried covering the bases as to why she takes that position (no pun intended!).

GrungeJunkie- interesting that you could not like Courntey as a person (or whatnot), but still rank her as youir favorite. I could see having her on your list, but at the top spot with an unlikability? hehe

I dunno if anyone's mentioned her yet, but Laetitia Sadler (of Stereolab) is one of my favorites. Definitely not a particularly powerful or emotional voice but she's been at the helm of some of the coolest vocal melodies I've heard.

I want to run up and down the halls screaming:
LIZ PHAIR.
C'mon, sure, she sold out a lil' but show her some love. "Exile in Guyville" was brilliant, and not just brilliant-for-a-girl. Anyone else love Liz Phair? Her songwriting just gets me, and shes got a great singing style.

Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, and Janis Joplin are all amazing and all a huge 'DUH'.
