Saint Etienne
One of my favourite Pop bands of the 90's who started out with generic Dance beats but gradually found their own style mixing 60's classic Pop sounds with an Electronic base. The album 'Foxbase Alpha' is a belting album and Sarah Cracknell has a wonderful voice. Quintessentially British.

Foxbase Alpha has been on my 'list' for ages now, good reminder!

I discovered them, a couple of months ago, as i was doing searches on youtube for Etienne Dao, a very important pop singer in France.
Etienne Daho & St Etienne - Jungle Pulse Etienne Daho & St Etienne - He's on the phone He's on the phone is an adaptation of Week-end à Rome, a Dao song. |

Love this band been listening to Foxbase Alpha today and enjoying the hell out of it. Sarah Cracknell is beautiful and has a very nice voice. Can't believe they don't have a bigger thread. |
great band

wow forgot about these, used to love them when I was at school, so underated

My favorite band for all time! Anyone heard their new single "Tonight" yet? It was produced by Tim Powell (Kylie, Sugarbabes, Pet Shop boys) so it has a very Kylie sound to it, which I wasn't too crazy about. It's not a bad song though.
Anyway I have all of St Etienne's albums plus nearly all their rare stuff like "Nice Price" "Built on land" etc. They always make me smile. Plus Sarah Cracknell is a major hottie and she has a dreamy, beautiful angelic voice that could send you floating up in the clouds. |
It might have Moira Lambert on vocals instead of Sarah Cracknell, but their cover of Neil Young's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' is a great tune.
Another song I adore. They have such a great knack for writing catchy pop songs that don't sound the slightest bit forced or throwaway. |
A great band. One of their more recent tracks "Teenage Winter" is one of my faves
