HOw many fans does hillary have... hmmm

maybe 2,000, with 1,500 of them girls under 5th grade,

slipknot has millions of fans

Oh quit bitching. I love metal (not religiously, but I have my preferences :P), but last time I checked, popularity of a certain artist doesn't necessarily correlate with the group in question being talented at all. Slipknot's not awful by any means, but there are better examples if you want to make a case for metal. Meshuggah, Pain of Salvation, Edge of Sanity, King Crimson since the Red era, etc.

Hillary: Is it arrogance to imply that people should open themselves up to other kinds of music before shoving their opinions into other people's faces? You're either the bitch who sits on their couch and gets weaned on MTV and bull**** publications like Rolling Stone and Pitchfork or you are an explorer who seeks to expand his/her listening capacities and tolerances by searching out things for yourself.

Get your ass out of the nest before calling me out on arrogance.

I wasn't calling you arrogant. All I was doing was using your words and that's why I used the quote below my sentence to prove my point. But that wasn't directed at you.

Anyways, I don't think I was shoving this thread in anybody's face directly. I asked opinions and have been given asshat remarks.

Oh. Bleh.

And yeah, you haven't gotten too many particularly insightful responses on here. A shame I guess...

This thread is so stupid. You can't argue that singers aren't musicians. I persoanlly can't stand Hillary Duff, and Slipknot only have two good songs, but why can't all the crap music just live together in peace?

Veronica Lodge 11-11-2008 09:29 AM

I really think that you are missing the point on this one.

Having a song writing credit on a song no longer that 2 minutes, means she probably improvised the words "ooh ohh" or baby baby, or some one liner that they though, yeah yeah, that will credit her into being a "songwriter".

Please, take it from me, a musician, someone who WENT to UNIVERSITY for music, who took songwriting classes, and studied music for my ENTIRE life, she is NOT a musician. she is not a songwriter. she is a gimmick. she has been marketed to little girls to make money. hey she has a clothing line, does that mean she is a designer? no, she put her name on it to allow little girls to recognize her, and to make heaps of cash.

you've just been duped into liking her, and you feel defensive because you know the rest of us have a point.

fine, if you like her "voice" (thank you autotune, and d-verb), or if you like the music, thats perfectly fine, listen to what you want... but don't have the audacity to argue with everyone on a music forum that she is a creative musician. because you're wrong.

I'm not being arrogant. The fact is I'm DEFENDING my first post because everyone is spamming against it.

Nice logic btw.

I told him he had a good post. Which is true. Getting off your but and listening to artists that are not spoon fed to you are a mandatory requirement if you are to be a music fan. With ANY basic understanding of how music works, how songs are written, and what technical skill is, one would realize that choices like: "Hilary Duff, Linsey Lohan, Miley Cirus, Ashlee Simpson" have none of these qualities.
