I'm against what that video stands for and yet rate it well. It helps that Katy Perry's videos tend to be amusing and sexy without being slutty.
Let me elaborate on my old quote: She chooses song themes that many people of various age groups can relate to and yet haven't been heard much in the mainstream. Also, I don't think her songs vary much musically, although she can do Christian and folk stuff, not very well, in my opinion. Worst Katy Perry single: "Thinking of You," tiresome theme, boring musically, lousy singing, and with a bland video.

I am really interested to see what she produces next, either same old or change of style a little bit. She had to be the biggest 'Pop' artist around for that last album, she clearly has extremely good support around her but I do actually like her music I think its feel good true pop music and I hope she sticks around for the long run.
Any rumors of leaks of new material yet?

I was just listening to Wide Awake today. I usually don't love Katy Perry's brand of pop, but something about that song and it's production just strikes me. I also really like the video, like a little look into her as a person. I'm sure that the point though... just another tactic. Still powerful though!

It's the pink that gets to me
I think Katy Perry has some similar, "empowering" messages that Kelly Clarkson and Aguilera came out with a while ago (which I'm all for), but what I don't get is the message doesn't seem to be consistent.
Firework, Circle the Drain, Wide Awake... where the hell was all this while she was sitting on that pink cloud acting like an idiot while Snoop was downstairs? Growing as a person? Fine. But I'd hope that songwriters would be a little more together before they step on stage. With great power comes great responsibility. Weird... |

Katy Perry has a split personality, one side goofy and the other (maybe the more private part) serious in kind of a change-this-painful-world way. There are many people like her. While I believe she has some growing up to do, she'll probably always be that mix. I don't mind that. It's the tits-popularity thing that bugs me. Edit: and her singing sometimes, when it's in the forefront.
