80's music I loved: Paula Abdul, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Bananarama, Blondie, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, U2, Janet Jackson, Wham, Rick Springfield, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, the Cars, Billy Idol, David Bowie, a bunch of other stuff. That's not even getting into all the 80's glam metal bands I love like Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi and Whitesnake.

^ blondie, duran duran, david bowie, eurythmics, talking heads, tears for fears, guns n roses.... sweeet list! add the cure to that (maybe depeche mode) and thats the 80s for sure!

YEAH YEAH!! I forgot Depeche Mode. Don't know how I could, but alas, I did. I mean, albums like Black Celebration are not easy to forget.

It's sad that I know who these people are.

I'll give my two cents.
Pop has really changed over the course of time. it went from stuff people could listen to, relate to and enjoy to something that half ways sounds like a drowing rat that should be shot for it's misery.

I like Cyndie Lauper. Although I'm more of a Madonna person in terms of how people percieve me. Although my hair is currently green red and blue. . .
And Blondie ruled a far as I know.
I do not consider U2 pop. I consider them alternative rock.
Same thing with The Cure.

I am proud to say that I own a Depeche Mode and Wham album. And the Cars are unbelievable. 'My Best Friend's Girl' is probably my favorite song by them. Although I don't really consider them pop. But who knows. I wasn't around during their reign of the pop charts so I just classify them based on my interpretation their music.

And sice this is a pop thread and you guys have yet to mention this band I will.
New Kids on the Block is one of my favorite groups of all time. Marky Mark (Mark Wahlberg) was cute even then. And the music is so awesome. And funny.

Wow.
Memory Lane sure makes me feel a whole lot older.

OOOh, I thought about New Kids on the Block but I couldn't remember if they were late 80's or started in 1990. I used to be into them when they came out too. I don't have a Wham cd but I have my old Wham tape.

I love Marky Mark:)

OK, I agree with you as far as classification. But they were popular, and as we all know, that is what pop is. It makes no difference what the music genre is, if it's popular, it's pop music, so I agree with you as far as classification, but hell, it's still pop! ;)
