I have a bad feeling that 30 years from now, the R&B and other pop **** on MTV would be praised for being original.

For all we know, this might even continue for 30 years . Or might change all together and become something better.

All pointless speculations of course.

Pop music great, but like any other music if it falls into the wrong hands it can be used for evil.

When pop bands get subversive and (pseudo)experimental, that's when it gets good. or when subversive and (pseudo)experimental bands get popular...the only thing I can think of is gorillaz and gnarls barkley.

Or 99% of recording pop artists today. When American Idol dictates which music is good and which is bad, that's when you know the music industry has turned into one gigantic ****fest. I'm not saying it all sucks. But most does.

Pop is not really a genre in itself, its just whatever the public views as good. For example, Van Halen is considered metal, and at the same time, Pop. Same with Metallica

The problem with pop music is that there are some innovators in the genre, but after they find success you have a million other (dare I say) artists who copy the style which creates blandness.

Pop isnt great music, but its probably the best music to listen to when you just wanna dance and have fun, thats its only function, its not meant to be political or socially conscious or instrumentally amazing, just meant for people to have fun while its hot, then forget about it and dance to the next hot song that comes out

thats my take on pop

Pop music like all things pop (excluding corn) will always leave a poor taste in the mouths of the more thoughtful\involved fans. Pop music is of course popular and popular by definition is divisive, didn't we learn anything from high school?

Pop music often promotes thoughtless enjoyment, this offends a lot of music fans because generally in society perception is assumed reality. So an artist or song that is popular is presumed to be quality by those less informed and as we know this is not always the case.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

As someone who was bought up in a family without a single classic rock album in sight and who spent every sunday evening listening to the top 40 on the radio I respectfully say you're talking a load of bollocks
