Obviously you don't either. You listen to generic nu-metal.

I dont think theres anything wrong with that, as long as its not all he listens to and he realizes that it is not new or inventive, and is almost always feeding off teenage angst.

Oh and this is the cornerstone of intelligence?

Not even Beatles fans care for early Beatles. This however pisses all over those Godsmack lyrics:

Quote:

Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been,
Lives in a dream.
Waits at the window, wearing a face she keeps in a jar by the door,
Who is it for?
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?
Father McKenzie, writing the words of a sermon that no-one will hear,
No-one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks in the night when there’s nobody there,
What does he care?
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?
Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name.
Nobody came.
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave.
No-one was saved.
All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?
HELL even this does:

Quote:

When there’s sunshine, we’ll shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be a friend
Took an oath I'ma stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we'll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella

I never said there was anything wrong with it. I just said he shouldn't bitch about people not liking credible music when the music he likes is generic music made for angsty suburban kids who think their life sucks.

I think you are confusing 'appreciate and acknowledge thier artistic efforts' with 'latch onto those sort of themes'. Godsmack isn't a theme, it's not an image. I've only ever seen one person in my school wearing a godsmack shirt, and he doesn't even really listen to Godsmack it's just a t-shirt he owns.

Angst ridden teens can relate to Godsmack songs wich is why they like them, but they don't use Godsmack as some social badge like people do with pop and rap. They genuinely appreciate Godsmack.

Lol.

Incidentally, I've never seen anyone wear a Britney Spears or Rihanna t-shirt, but I have seen thousands of teens wear Iron Maiden and other metal band's shirts...so much for alternative music not being used as some social badge...;)

Look at the band Oomph, English is the lead singer's second language and he is still more articulate than the average American artist.

Quote:

i'll turn your head in a ****ing hole
i'll rip your mind out i'll burn your soul
I am the anguish inside your brain
i'll fill you up with eternal pain

-----

peel me
stab like a fencer
until I can feel you again
heal me
spread like a cancer
until I can feel all this pain
burn like a fire
release me
and then let me drown again
burn like a fire
to freeze me
and then let me drown again

-----

Midnight - All the kids are asleep
Moonlight - Makes them breathe in so deep
Inside - Hunger cuts like a knife
Upside - I can smell the real life

I'm climbing their beds - I lift up their heads
I open my mouth - Oh! I love all the brats

'Cause I'm the breathtaker
I am the death fake - Ha!
I am the fear of your family
I am the boneshaker
I am the breathtaker
And I'm gonna make you blue...

I'd like to see Justin Timberlake write lyrics like that...in a foreign language.

Go to any 13 year old kid who wears black & they'll write better lyrics than that. No matter what country you go to.

Brittany fell out of popularity but back in the day little girls, all they could think about was Brittany. They had the Brittany spears folders the lunch boxes the backpacks, etc.

or Rihanna t-shirt,
Not so familiar with Rihanna (to recognise people wearing her t-shirts) but I'm sure she sells allot of merchandise.

Mainstream 'metal' acts like Killswitch Engage and Trivium (maybe, I'm not really a fan of mainstream acts so I'm not that familiar with them)

How many Oomph t-shirts have you seen?

Like these lyrics, written by an actual 13 year old artist?

Quote:

get out (leave) right now
its the end of you and me
its too late (now) and I cant wait for you to be gone
cause I know about her (move)
and I wonder (why) how I bought all the lies
you said that you would treat me right
but you were just a waste of time (waste of time)
 Almost.

In her defense, she probably didn't even write the lyrics, some 35 year old disney producer probably wrote them.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-05-2008 03:38 PM

Well considering the lyrics you posted use virtually every teen angst cliche going they're no better than the ones you're posting as an example of ridiculous lyrics.

None. But I'm betting there's quite a few angsty German teens wearing them. ;)
